Just saw this listing for Wenders' Alice in the City, due out in October. Looks like Axiom are finally releasing some more Wenders on Blu-ray, something I've been patiently waiting for. Obviously some would have imported the Criterion release but good news for us UK folk!

I have the German Wim Wenders Blu-ray set of five of his early films of the 4K restorations of which "Alice..." is one. Unfortunately not English friendly but the films look great, when taking into account some of the limitations of the film stock.

More Wenders on the way from Axiom - this time, Kings of the Road: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B076BK4SZL
I reckon they'll at least round off the Road Movie Trilogy with Wrong Move, and then probably move onto The American Friend and Buena Vista Social Club! These will be nice alternatives to the Criterion editions, I'm sure. If they do any more after those, I reckon it'd be wise to pair The State of Things and Lisbon Story in a double-set, then maybe upgrade the documentaries box set (I'd especially love Tokyo-ga). But if we're really lucky, they might even try and license Until the End of the World or Faraway, So Close! but I somehow doubt it (studios may not allow it). |

Wender's The Goalie's Anxiety at the Penalty Kick is long overdue an English friendly DVD. It's a pretty good film and does have one of the greatest film titles of all time.
I would be prepared to give the full version of Until the End of the World a go even though I cared little for the cut version. |

Yeah, confirmed to me on Twitter they plan to release The Goalie's Anxiety at the Penalty on Blu-ray/DVD in February. I asked about the others and they just said 'more to come...' so I assume we'll eventually get Kings of the Road, Wrong Move and The American Friend at least.
No idea if they could improve on their previous editions of Paris, Texas or Wings of Desire. They'd have to be brand new scans and packed with extras to tempt me for a double-dip, as much as I love both of them. Buena Vista Social Club is long due a UK Blu-ray too. Would make sense to do it now since there's a sequel coming out. |

Anyone know is this the same source/quality as the criterion release?
For some reason i had never seen the film until this afternoon & it has become my favourite Wenders film. Such a beautiful film, it's in the HMV 2 for £25 deal so I must buy it. |

I wonder if it dropped into the offer so quickly cos it wasn't selling? It only came out 2 months ago though. Might reconsider pre-ordering The American Friend and Kings of the Road if they'll be on offer a couple of month after... |

I wondered this, but I've had an eye on Alice in the City for ages and that didn't drop (it's still in 2 for £25 I think), so you're probably right about it not selling.
Either that or they put the wrong film in the offer! |
