Reminds me very much of Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, even the trailer with the U2 music. But I was one of only eight people in the world that liked that film.
Trailer probably gave too much away, I would advise not watching it. I know I won't watch anything more until I see it. |

Saw this last week.
At the end of the day, it's a very well made disaster movie - and, luckily, I have a sweet spot for disaster movies. Positives: acting is superb and beautifully shot. Watts is a powerhouse. Negatives: A bit too white, considering it's an event that happened in the Asia Pacific region. Then again, if the film only wanted to focus on this family's struggle in a disaster region where faces they see are different than their own, then I guess it did it's job. Will definitely watch again. |

Saw a screening of this at Skywalker Ranch a few months back. One of my favorite movies for sound design/editorial this year. The clarity of the mix really brought it to life and is extremely detailed. Would certainly recommend checking it out.

Remember the earthquake in 2004 that spawned massive waves and killed up to 300.000 people in that region? This movie is based on one of the surviving families adventure. |

Not sure if "adventure" is the right word there.

Saw it this weekend-it is incredibly powerful. Watts was really amazing and McGregor gives his best performance. The young man who plays the oldest son was good, reminded me of Christian Bale in Empire of the Sun. I really hope it gets some Oscar love this week.

Very powerful and moving storyline. It is a disaster movie but something felt different about this film. I guess it is the fact that unlike many disaster films this one was based on a true story and therefore the emotions displayed had more of an impact on the overall storyline and meaning of the film. The acting was great and the special effects and cinematography really made you feel like you were experiencing the event.
