The best Blu-ray player to get right now is the Oppo. I had a Pioneer Elite BD-05FD and I am so happy I switched to the Oppo BD player. Both are excellent players when it come to blu-ray playback and DVD upconversion. But Oppo support is far better (including firmware updates) and the Pioneer players are very slow. I do not think I will buy another Pioneer BD player. The menu's on the Oppo are just killer too and don't forget that the Oppo plays SACD and DVD-Audio. Good stuff.
![]() I have the same TV as you. Do yourself a favor and contact Jeff Meier at Accucal.org to have your Kuro properly calibrated. You will not be sorry. Last edited by coolmilo; 07-22-2009 at 03:49 AM. |

Yeah the PQ on 320s and the 51s are imho better than the Sony 300s & the PS3. Prolly has something to do with the pic settings/features that are there on the Pio BD players...not to mention they have this Kuro sync thingy going on between Kuros & Pio BD players....but cant say whether that makes a diff or an impact on the PQ.

The picture quality on the Oppo is equal to the picture quality on the Pioneer. From my experience, I am a lot happier with the Oppo because it is as fast as the PS3 (load times) and Oppo’s customer service is award winning (IMO), especially when compared to Pioneer.
You do not need matching components. You will probably connect the BD player to a Pre or Receiver anyway. I recommend that you demo both players before you decide. |

Of course the Pioneer Elite 23 has a Kuro link. The 51 might have this also. It might be a convenience that you would like if you don't plan to play SACDs or already have a player that can play SACDs.

Well it depends on how you want to go. Performance or Price? If price isn't an issue, I would go for the BDP-09FD. It's built like a tank with top line video processing, and 8 Wolfson Audio DACS (one for each audio channel). The Monitor you have is an amazing monitor, however you won't get the most out of it without great source components to actually feed it the information.
However, if the BDP-09FD is pushing the budget, the BDP-05FD is a great unit. I personally have one and have been very pleased with video and audio quality to my Pioneer PDP-5020FD. |

The Elite BDP-09 is the best player out there, bar none. The problem is that you pay quite the premium for it. I would love to get my hands on one.
