Been chomping at the bit for one of these! Though I am not crazy about the bit rate it sure beats my existing setup. Besides, you never know what new firmware will change.

Unfortunately, it doesn't do any good for the US market. To my knowledge, no recorder has yet to make it to the US market.

Yes, it will, but only one that you can use in Japan. The Panasonic recorder that is available in Australia has a tuner which works in Australia and Panasonics recorder in the UK, yes, has a tuner for the UK in it (all, AFAIK). By the way, all of them are region/zone-locked for those DVD-regions and BD-zones, so they are quite useless for other regions (un-modded, that is).

But, YES, Panasonic is planning one for North America as well (although it's delayed quite a bit):
