The system you have is a two-channel system. It is good for playing CD, LP, and cassette from two channels. For a home theater, you need a system that supports at least 5 speakers and a subwoofer (5.1). You need to buy a new AV receiver. It can be any brand. I know Sony is popular in the Middle East and North Africa, but it can be other brands such as Pioneer, Denon, Onkyo, Marantz, Yamaha, Harmon Kardon, Sherwood, etc. I made a list for you in the following. You don't have to buy all of them at the same time. Buy the best quality you can afford and do it one step at a time if they are too expensive in Egypt.
  1. Buy an AV receiver that has HDMI input and supports 5.1 speakers.
  2. If you already have four speakers, you need one more. It is best for the front speakers to be identical, but it is ok if they are not.
  3. Buy a subwoofer. The bigger, the better.
  4. Buy two HDMI cables and several speaker wires. It is best for speaker wires to be as thick as possible. They have gauge numbers such as 12, 14, 16, 18, etc. The lower the number, the thicker is the wire.
  5. Connect your PS3 to the new AV receiver with an HDMI cable.
  6. Connect your AV receiver to the TV with another HDMI cable. I hope you have a TV that supports HDMI input.
  7. Go to the setup menu of PS3 and set the audio to PCM and video to the highest resolution your TV supports.
  8. Follow the instructions in the receiver's manual and connect all speakers and place them according to the following diagram.
  9. If you decide to buy a subwoofer, go to the receiver's menu and set all the the speakers to small and subwoofer to YES. If you don't have a subwoofer, put your two best speakers up front and set them to Large in the menu and subwoofer to NO.
  10. Most modern AV receivers have calibration programs and a microphone. Place the microphone where you normally sit and follow the instruction on the screen and calibrate your speakers.
  11. Enjoy your new system and don't forget to send us airplane tickets so that we can come to Egypt and listen to your system.
