Default THD's in Receivers!!!!

How Important is looking @ the THD in Receivers! I notice that ONKYO uses about 5% and Yamaha uses 4% and Pioneer uses 9%. And they say the lower the # the better. But when I listen to these receivers @ work. The Pioneer sound more cleaner to me. The Onkyo's sound warmer and the Yamaha the same. What is your intake on this. Just want to know more about this. Thanks

none of those are over 1%.... I think you are either looking at different #'s, or you have your decimal places off. Anything below 0.09% (which I believe all those are)THD is inaudible so any difference you are hearing in the receivers is not due to THD.

I wouldn't let THD be a deciding factor in your purchase. Most receivers on the market have less than 0.09% so unless it's really high, it shouldn't be a factor. The tonal differences you were hearing were probably from processors, DAC's, or power supplies. Those would be much more important to look at when shopping, good luck!
