I am going to run some speakers through the wall and was wondering if I need to cut a huge hole behind the face plate for my speaker wires? For example light switches, electrical plugs, cable and phone wires have huge cutt outs for junction boxes behind the face plates, or would it be OK to just leave a big enough hole for the speaker wires themselves. I just want it to look as professional as possible. Even though I am not a professional by any stretch of the imagination, I am pretty good at little projects. If an one has any tips I would be greatful for your input.

In a couple of months we are going to build our new house and I have chosen this solution for my wiring. it goes to 4 mm2
That should do and it's a clean solution. ![]() ![]() |

I'm going with this sort of plate
http://www.radioparts.com.au/ProdVie...oduct=39893072 Depending on what you are mounting on (Plasterboard, double brick, timber etc) depends on the mounting bracket, but the hole is fairly large (in area about half the area of the plate). Make the hole too small and you are going to have problems, make the hole too big and you are going to have even bigger problems. Like with most things this stuff is easy when you know how, try and get someone (that knows what they are doing to give you a demo. I would go for connectors that can accept a banana plug that can also screw down. I don't like the look of a wire hanging out the wall. If you are going to use plugs or sockets the hole must enable the fitting to sink into the wall. I'm about to put in dozens of these things (including aerial, co-ax and many other types of connectors. |
