I say between $40 and $50 million for Ghostbusters. I wish it would break The Force Awakens opening record just to witness the online whining.

That's what I'm thinking too(the first part, I mean). 40-50 mil. If it does any less, it means bad reviews scared people away.

Ghostbusters $40 million (it will open well but word of mouth will be toxic)
The Infiltrator $8 million three-day, $11.5 million five-day (Broad Green is desperate for a hit but this is probably not it)

I'm locked in at $40M, which means it'll do more or less because I rarely ever come close to guessing right.

I'll guess at least $40 million just because there's enough people that will see any movie with "Ghostbusters" in the title.

I'm guessing $60 to $65 million. There's no such thing as bad publicity, as the old saying goes, and there hasn't been a "Sex & the City" or "Magic Mike" geared towards the female audience this summer. If the Ghostbusters hit up all the talk shows in the next week and just kill it, this could quickly go from "potential flop" to "gotta see it".

$40-50 million, followed by a hefty decline by the second weekend. The other big budget movies and word-of-mouth will kill it.

Yeah this is in incredibly difficult movie to predict financially! There’s so many factors for it to be either a flop or a mega success. Personally I don’t want to see it but it might attract the female crowd kinda like Pitch Perfect etc. and we all know how unpredictable that demographic is.

While most peoples’ predictions of 40ish sounds about right I think we’re in for a surprise in either way below that or way higher than that.

The fact that it’s a movie that isn’t geared towards us movie nerds (even though it kinda is, since I’m sure most of us movie nerds love Ghostbusters, just not THIS Ghosbusters) doesn’t mean it won’t attract a different audience.

But yeah, totally don’t care about this movie, just really curious how it’s gonna do!

A few months back I'd say 70 million, but with recent nostalgia stuff like ID4 Resurgence tanking I'll say 40-50 million. If it's actually an okay-good movie probably higher with good word of mouth.

I agree with Jonno2000 -- I see this either opening ~$10m higher or ~$10m lower than tracking.

The reviews drop on Sunday and will make a big wave one way or another.

I'm going with 50 mil, but this one's definitely hard to predict. The female demographic will certainly be out in droves for this one, and I think even families will head out to this if they don't feel the need to see Secret Life of Pets again (they attached a trailer for this movie to Finding Dory, the biggest family movie of the summer). General moviegoers who are going based on the Ghostbusters name alone, for the sake of nostalgia, or out of sheer curiosity will also help it.

However, like previous posters have said, I wouldn't be surprised if this goes above or below my prediction.

Is the infilitrator really going wide? I haven't seen any TV ads or anything for it. When they say "Wide" is this one of those like 1,000 theater releases or something? I can't imagine it is going in like 2,500 or 3,000? I haven't even seen Cranston or any of the cast promoting on tv either

It looks like around 2,000 theatres (Broad Green's widest opening, A Walk in the Woods, hit 1,960 theatres the Wednesday before Labor Day). I have seen one trailer (before Money Monster) but Broad Green seems like the kind of company that doesn't have much capital to do a huge ad campaign (ever since their buying spree in late 2014/early 2015, they've had one hit, several flops, and they had to sell Green Room off to A24 just to release much of their backlog).

I'm pretty sure "Wide" indicates at least 1k theaters or more. That being said, I have three multiplexes here in town, and only one of them is set to play The Infiltrator while the other two aren't going to be showing it at all. However, I didn't get Broad Green's Neon Demon at all when it opened a few weekends ago.

I put mine at $60 million. When ordering my tickets for a 8pm showing on Friday, I noticed that most of the showings were sold out or close to it. In comparison, neither TMNT OotS or ID: Resurgence were sold out even on release day. Granted this is a small sample, but it's a sample nevertheless. I want to see this film get rave reviews if nothing more than to see the internet implode .
