Default Sacd

Hey guys, My birthday is comming up and am throwing around the idea of an SACD player. Can someone shed the light as to some pro's & con's? Any units I should stay away from? Any help would be appreciated.

Oppo BD-83, it will give you both high resolution audio formats SACD & DVD-A, it will give you up to 7.1 analog out, it will give you SACD output in it's native DSD format via HDMI and of course it's the best blu-ray player on the market for double it's price and will also give you blu-ray audio medium that plays in the lossless formats of Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD-MA and Uncompressed PCM. I proudly own one and I have quite a nice collection of all of the mentioned audio formats listed above.
Best of Luck!

Unless his Yamaha can also accept native DSD over HDMI, it won't give him that benefit. Both the player and receiver have to have this capability.

If he is looking for simply an inexpensive, yet solid SA-CD that outputs in it's native DSD, has 7.1 analog, plays CD, DVD and DVD-Audio, but not Blu-ray, the Oppo DV-980H for $169.99 is a great choice as well.

John

PS~ Sorry solarrdadd, wasn't trying to critisize.

Soooo I take it my Yammy will not accept DSD over HDMI... Is it worth getting the SACD player in this case? I am looking for somthing that will give me a great audio experience compared to just my 2L recordings blu and CD's.

In my opinion? YES!

The A Guide to SACD sticky is a great thread to read through at your leisure. I had a lot of questions about SA-CD earlier this year, although my launch PS3 60GB could play it.

Might want to check out www.fidelisav.com in the pre-owned section, Sony 9100 ES. Great player, great price.

I don't think the RX-V463 accepts DSD bitstreaming over HDMI. It was available in the RX-V663 and higher models for that year.

Still, even without HDMI bitstreaming, proper SACD will sound better than CDs when using the player's analog outputs. I wouldn't shy away from SACD at all, since most players are connected via analog anyway. The Oppo player mentioned earlier is an excellent choice for SACD playback, and it's also a great DVD upscaler to boot.

Most players out these days will do DSD>Analog directly in the player, so you're not losing out by not doing it in the receiver. If the DAC's are better in the player then analog would be the most desirable choice anyway.

I have a Pioneer DV-48, I use the Onkyo 805's DAC's for DSD>Analog because they're PCM1796 BB's and are very highly regarded...I'd need to step up to a serious SACD player to beat them and I don't have $1,000 to drop on an SACD player right now...I'd rather save that up for my next turntable.
