Default cork flooring

Anybody use cork floor in their theater? If so how do you like it? Anyone have an opinion on the acousical properties of how cork would compare to carpet and pad?

Thanks

it's probably similar to wood (not laminate, as it's somewhat porous) but no where near as absorptive as carpet/pad........ If it's going in your current living room, I would go with it...... If you're building a purpose built theater, then I would carpet (all based on aesthetics.... I just wouldn't want carpet in my living/family room)

Beta, it`s not a dedicated ht, just moving everything down to the basement and adding a pj. I was going to go with carpet but started to think a hard surface might be a better choice because of durability, i do have dogs that will be in this room. I read some post on another forum that said cork works very well.

I did my office in acids and ureas over concrete. It is durable and you woulld think it would have a cold feel being directly over concrete but it is not. The floor has a warm feel to it when walking on it with bare feet.

Carpet for a basement is good because of the comfort factor...... If only basement floors were poured over Blue-Board, they'd all be much more comfortable......

I would go with the cork for the durability issues you mentioned though..... you can always use a large area rug, and it doesn't appear that you're shy with the acoustical room treatments/panels, so I'm sure you can overcome any echoes you would otherwise have.

Looks good Jim, but that floor might be a nightmare if acoustical control is a concern. Heavy treatments would be a MUST with that floor in a basement.

I know. I was very proud on how it turned out and love showing it off even if it does not fit what is really needed. Plus I got one more post to making Guru.

I'm going to install cork floor to my dedicated HT. It will be from Wicanders VinylComfort Collection, "Coal Slate" to be exact. Concrete floor beneath cork is heated with water pipes to make it comfortable (we have long & cold winter season here in finland).

I'm gonna add large rug to avoid possible echoes. More details about my project so far in signature link...
