United Kingdom Snakes on a Plane (audio issue)

Hey peeps.

Has anyone received their UK version of Snakes on a Plane from EIV yet?

A chap on another forum says there's no Dolby True HD on the disc, only Dolby Digital, even though the disc menu and back cover of the Blu-ray shows Dolby True HD as an option?

He's posted pictures and everything. Look HERE.

I thought EIV titles from New Line were meant to be direct ports of the US version? Early indications seem to be that the US version of Snakes on a Plane definitely has the TrueHD track?

So any idea what's going on?

Have we been kidding ourselves all this time that EIV titles from New Line are exactly the same as the US versions of the same titles and that this is just another EIV cock-up?

Or does this guy have his PS3 and Panasonic player set-up incorrectly somehow?

Anyone have any ideas? I'm thoroughly confoozed!

The US version as far I know is region free so just get that one.

Had 2 titles from EIV which only had DD5.1 and got rid em for the US versions

I want to be able to pick up BDs locally rather than just get everything from the US if it's region free.

I also want to ensure that EIV's New Line titles really are just direct ports of their US versions.

If it turns out that this release really is as this guy says, it means we've been deluding ourselves all this time that EIV Blu-ray releases from New Line are direct ports of the US release.

EIV do port US encodes from newline. Could be a balls up on EIVs part on the sound or possibly warners. Ask someone to double check the US warner/newline version does not have this issue.

If the EIV/Newline releases carried on having DTS-HD MA audio when it switched to warner doing the encoding then that would of told me EIV might of been doing their own encodes.

I am assuming on this the person has an old PS3 (not the slim that bit streams HD audio).

I spotted on the guys reciver in the PIC that it was lit up as Dolby D 5.1 in his pictures. How would his reciver know that unless it was bit streaming becasue if it was decoded in the PS3 then it would be showing as Multichannel (usually on most recivers this I could be wrong and people can correct me)

Early indications seem to suggest that the US version does indeed output Dolby TrueHD like it should and that the menus and specs are otherwise identical to the EIV version.

I don't have a clue what's going on with that guys disc. My gut tells me there's something wrong with his set-up, but he says he tested The Dark Knight and that was fine and he also says he tried the disc on a PS3 and a Panny BD player and they're both telling him the audio is Dolby Digital only?

I'm going to be so depressed if it turns out the fault lies with EIV's encode, because it means I'm going to have to stop assuming it's safe to buy their BDs if they're New Line titles.

Come on people, someone else must have picked this up already!

HI, I'm the guy that posted those pics. The receiver picture was when the disc was fed from the Panasonic which outputs Bitstream. Dolby True HD ALWAYS is displayed on the amp was Dolby True HD and DTS HD MA is ALWAYS displayed as DTS HD MA and likewise for DTS HD HR. Is shows what its getting.

I managed to put the disc in a PS3 to see what the PS3 would make of the track and that confirmed that it was a Dolby 5.1 640kbps track.

Sounds like EIV screwed up the audio and used a down convert or extract the dolby digital track only.

Hi,

I can also confirm that the UK Snakes on a Plane only has Dolby Digital audio.
The packaging, and menus indicate that TrueHD is available, but the disc only plays in Dolby Digital. (I have a PS3, and I also tried it with Total Media Theatre on my laptop and played this disc on both)

I can remember since the early days of DVD that I'd often be disappointed by EIV discs.
I guess some things never change. Very disappointing.
