From that title, I thought they were premiering 54 new unseen individual directors cuts to films.

I thought it meant 54 directors were removing their premieres from the festival

That was my initial thought as well.

Not me, I knew exactly what this meant!

Wow, I can't tell if this means it will be making it's way to a commercial release on blu-ray or what. I've been wanting to email Shout! Factory to ask about them considering the release of the director's cut of 54! It's Miramax so I thought it may be possible. There would be great potential for an excellent director's cut with tons of extras. Every instance where this cut has been shown it has gotten rave reviews. Supposedly an entirely different movie altogether that was the victim of heavy handed Disney controlled editing and reshoots to make it more 'acceptable'. If you hear anything at all, please post it for us! Thanks!

The film is getting released on demand later this year: http://www.vulture.com/2015/02/54-directors-cut.html

I really want to see it. I've heard it's so much better. I thought the initial cut was alright but not great. Might have been had it not been chopped up. I'm glad they're releasing this. It's pretty exciting that the director's original vision is going to get a second chance at life.

But yes, the title of the thread should be edited .

Didn't like the original cut that much, but would be interested to see how much of an improvement the director's cut is.

This is where grammar comes in handy.

54 director's cut premieres at Berlin...

54 Director's cut premieres at Berlin....

54 Director's cut to premiere at Berlin...

"54" Director's cut to premiere at Berlin...

Director's Cut of "54" to premiere at Berlin Film Festival

And so on...

In the comments section, the author of the piece says that it'll be on VOD later this year after a few more festivals but that the PR people from Miramax didn't have an exact date yet for him to publish.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a Blu release with a better transfer than the first!

I saw this today at a screening at the BFI in London which was followed by a Q&A with Mark Christopher.

Putting together the Director's cut was said to be a challenge and some of the scenes inserted into the director's cut are actually taken from the VHS dailies/rushes so you have some scenes cut with a mixture of the original master and VHS.

No word yet on a DVD/Blu-Ray release.

I heard that there won't be a Blu release. Digital only.

The studio cut out 40 minutes of original footage and reshot 30 minutes of new footage. In the Director's Cut they removed the reshot footage and replaced it with the original 40 minutes which explains the running time.

iTunes is the only place it's available and, according to that, it's only for purchase.

We don't know. It's not up yet and it's not up for pre-order.
