Watched this tonight. There's been a bit too much DNR, maybe some high-frequency filtering because there's very little film grain, especially not from something sourced from what must be an IP. It's not been horribly overdone, there's still patches and a smattering of grain here and there but it's inconsistent and there's definitely been a blanket DNR pass, as per usual for Universal. At least there's no EE and the film as a whole looks relatively nice and fresh, the master isn't too bad. I'd like to see Arrow tackle this one, given the DNR and lack of extras on this release. Would be nice to get original stereo as well, given that all we've got is the remix.

Of course, another alternative is that Caroito’s Way was simply filmed on a very low grain film stock, although there definitely seems to be some DNR, it’s not as extreme as other titles, which makes me think the the grain was merely dialled down a bit as opposed to being completely stripped from the film. It’s also possible that no DNR was used and that it simply looked very clean, although I kind of doubt it.

The film itself is, of course, still brilliant and one of de Palma's best, IMO.

I watched this recently and feel pretty much the same about the disc. It looked a bit soft at times which could be down to depalmas shooting techniques or likely from dnr. It does look better than the majority of universal releases as there is no ee and it looks somewhat faithful to the source with some noticable grain during the black and white sequences. And much better than how the untouchables lookd and scarface. I give it 3.75, along with the audio being great as well.

Balls! When I saw this title pop up I'd hoped there might be something about a remaster. Ah well, it still looks rather nice as it is, when I watched my HD DVD remux a while back I was stunned by how good it looked considering it's a Universal catalogue joint.

Yeah, it is slightly DNR’d, I think, but it’s a huge improvement of the BTTF trilogy (DNR + EE), Scarface (DNR + EE), The Birds and other Hitchcocks (Tons of DNR) and things like The Big Lebowski (Also too much DNR). Hmm, I’m spotting a pattern. You’re right, the slight touch of DNR in Carlito’s Way is actually not too bad, and certainly more tolerable than a lot of Universal catalog titles. It helps that there’s relatively little damage to the print, and no optical for this film. It would actually look pretty good on 4K, it’s got the kind of lovely scenery, bright lights, deep blacks, etc. that HDR is so good at.
