are you looking at these for your main theater or a little something for the bedroom?

Yes, you're definitely going to have to get something better than those two "systems" !!! But not necessarily a lot more expensive. Go to http://www.accessories4less.com and check out the Onkyo Home Theater Systems there. Particularly the Onkyo HT-S6100/6200 and the HT-S7100/7200 packaged systems. Onkyo gives you the most for your money and you are assured of having the best sound. Be wary of cheap systems from other manufacturers. They usually do not deliver anywhere near the performance, features or functionality of Onkyo.
