Default BD-R Drive Cost

Sounds like drives for the PC should be coming out in the late winter or early spring from pretty much all the various companies. Anyone hear anything as far as what the drive's price will be?

That depends on what sort of drive. In October Panasonic announced computer drives would start shipping to Dell & HP in Jan 2006, a few days ago Pioneer made an announcement of delivery for Jan if they can get the logo and Digital Rights Management sorted. As far as the players that are part of the "Stereo" who knows but release dates are expected to be announced during the CES starting 5th Jan, the general consensus seems to be a release before June this year.

As far as how much - your guess is as good as anyone elses, however expect them to expensive, limited functions and slow to start with, but watch the price crash within a short time.

As to where you can get them - presumably whoever sells the DVD drives.

I believe that the Pioneer BDR-101a PC drive is planned to cost around US$1,000, but it can't record to dual layer (50GB) discs (although it can play dual layer BDROMs). Pioneer plan a fully dual-layer capable drive by Q2/Q3, and Philips are also launching a fully 50GB capable drive shortly ...
