Default Which of these two TVs should I purchase?

Well, I'm on the market for a new display upgrade, and I'm torn between two different sets -- one is plasma, the other is LCD. I can't decide, so I'm willing to listen to anyone who can chime in with their own personal opinions and advice. I'm looking at:

The Panasonic TC-P50G10 50" plasma

and

The Samsung 52" LN52B630 LCD

Thanks to anyone who reads and responds!

Well samsung makes a solid set, and that looks like it has some nice features. Have not seen either so can't really comment, i will leave that to the experts but if your going to go LCD you cannot go wrong with samsung.

However as an LCD (not top of the line but no slouch either) owner, some of the plasma tv's i have seen recently have me wishing i went that route. Don't know about that one in particular, but overall i would go plasma route, the image just seems more natural, especially in the blacks department. Now comparing those two specific sets, i will leave to others.

But i will say if you can, demo both YOURSELF, know what the source is, and do a quick calibration on the floor model before you commit to get a better idea of what you are getting.

Plasma is my vote. Best color accuracy, best blacks, best overall picture quality. If it's your primary "I-watch-all-my-movies-on-this-TV" TV, then get the plasma.

Thumbs up Panny plasma

I'll second that ! You absolutely cannot go wrong with the Panasonic TC-P50G10 !! It will run rings around either of the TVs in your original post. And, in fact, http://www.vanns.com has them IN STOCK right now for $1299 with FREE shipping and NO tax !!

Which TV? The overwhelming recommendation EVERY time one of these threads is started:

1) Kuro

2) Panasonic plasma (V10 / G10 / S1)

3) Samsung / Sony LCD

4) Everything else
