I made a thread a little while back asking about speaker placement b/c out couch is not in an optimal position. I currently have 2 Sony SSF-5000 towers behind the couch facing forward. I can't help but feel like the couch is blocking some of the sound and currently my only other speakers are some tiny Onkyo HTiB satellites.
Now my question is, would I be better off having the satellites in a better position but obviously they are lesser speakers or are the towers in a pretty bad position still better than the satellites? Thanks |

Pics are in his gallery.
![]() ![]() My opinion, for what it's worth, you'd be better served getting those tweeters above the arms of the couch. It depends on which speaker sounds better to you as to how you do this. Satellites installed higher on the wall might work, or you can put some sort of a riser under the speakers you have now to elevate them. |

I agree with what progers said - cuz I can only imagine what's going on acoustically with them in the corner - the reflective sound waves are bouncing off the wall, off the table, sound is absorbed into the couch, loveseat, etc. The rear part of your sound field could really be suffering. Perhaps you can budget in some better bookshelf speakers or satellites instead of moving the HTiB satellites in - but if you are leaving the floorstanding, you might toe-in so they are facing the couch alittle more - atleast then, you'll have the surround sound coming at you more accurately. Just my two cents. |

Well the pictures in my gallery are not up to date, and I unfortunately can't upload pictures right now b/c my camera is not with me. However I plan on getting some bookshelf speakers in a couple months but I need a solution for now. The satellites if used would be on stands and could be positioned above ear level and slightly behind the seating position. As for the towers, I don't have any real way to elevate them.
-- -- ________ The above is how it's setup now, but keep in mind the couch is taller than the speakers therefore most of the sound is bouncing off the couch. They are in great position for rear surrounds but not so much for side surrounds ![]() |

if ever there was a way to raise it up a tad further, closer to ear level, you would get a good sense of improvement. great? not really, but definitely clearer due to the tweeter position. |
