Over the last year or so I've noticed that there have been several BD releases (that I wanted) that were never available at any local retailer or local branch of a nationwide dealer. These weren't low budget titles, but major films. The only store that ever got "To Live & Die in L.A." was Barnes and Noble. I've only seen "The Edge" at Walmart. "Blue Thunder" had to be ordered from Amazon. Now, it seems impossible to get the just released "INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS" anywhere except Amazon. Target, Borders Books, Best Buy and FYE don't have it either, and when I tried to order it at B&N, two days later they said the order had been cancelled by their purchasing dept. with no reason. Pisses me off....

I can second that, I blame some desk pusher working for these chains. I had a heck of a time finding the second Underworld movie at any brick and mortar store, Oh you can find the first, and the third, and the box set but good luck on the second one. Only place I have ever seen it was the Best Buy at the Mall of America. This kind of stuff was ultimately what made me decide it might be worth ponying up for the Amazon Prime account.

I think a lot of retailers are just putting out most of the titles for the online stores and like not making the movie sections so big or maybe even making room for other things. I'm not quite sure but I will admit that Best Buy is starting to not carry new releases of Blu-rays and dvds that I am interested in and so has to be Amazon.com for me instead.
As for that The Edge movie you mentioned I wonder if it has anything related to that guy at Edge Games that tries to sue any company making a title that uses the word Edge in it? (Ok that was a bad joke but it is true that he does try to claim anything with the word Edge in it as his own like as if he owns the copyright to the word Edge). |

I've been noticing this since this year started and as time goes, I keep finding more and more dvds and Blu-rays I want not being carried at Best Buy(the only B&M store in my area that would carry what I like). |

I'd be a bigger fan of Amazon if the shipping options weren't wait 6-8 days for arrival or pay $80 to use Prime. Once it drops to $70 I will probably start using it, as it is I prefer to pay a little extra to get my movies when I want them instead of much later.

At brick&mortar stores, shelf space has become an issue for packaged media (movies, music). With limited space, putting out a re-release of a decades-old catalog title (blue thunder, to live and die in la) is something that often isn't worth it.
I agree it's frustrating. And it also becomes a bit chicken-and-egg. (That is, Best Buy doesn't put out Invasion of the Body Snatchers because it won't sell... but it won't sell because most folks are realizing that Amazon is best for smaller catalog titles.) Ultimately, the B&M stores are going to start focusing on major titles and a few catalog loss leaders. People wanting to get more obscure stuff (and we've gotten to the point where something like "To Live and Die in L.A." is obscure) will need to get very comfortable w/Amazon. |

First off, certain Best Buys carry new titles only and only the mother store of the area will carry the catalog releases. But, when that store doesn't have them on release day when they're supposed to, about 90% of the time they haven't even unboxed them yet and try to tell the customer they haven't received it, even though it says they have it in the computers. |

Funny though, the Best Buy in my area have a bunch of Piranha copies sitting on their shelves and NONE of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. In fact, I don't think they ever got any copies. I would think Invansion would sell better than Piranha......Whatever...... |

I use to make all of my BD purchases at Best Buy until I realized I was getting ripped off by over pricing.. I know use amazon 100% of the time unless it is the same price at Best Buy. As for the Super Wal-mart 3 miles from me, about 8 months ago they has a smile 1 isle section of blus and ever since they did their re-model They have down graded big time and only carry about 5-10 titles, not all new releases.
