How's the panny X1? - Blu-ray Forum

My mom is actually going to get one this Sat. I think. I have a G-15 and basically told her panasonic plasma was the way to go. Her old 25'' tube TV is crapping out, so she's jumping into HD. Anyhoo, HHgregg has the 50'' X1 for $700. She really doesn't want to spend much more than that, and I think for the size and being a panny plasma, it's a pretty good deal.

Thoughts?

Only negatives versus the g15 would be the following...

no 24p processing
lower contrast - 15,000:1(I think)
lower resolution - 720P
no THX mode - not sure this is a negative, I'd use custom settings anyway

Otherwise a very good television and an excellent value.

Still being new to my plasma I've been sticking with the THX mode...looks great to me, but I'm feeling a little bit of an itch to mess with settings. Even though the X1 isn't quite as good as what I have I KNOW she will enjoy it.

Its 30,000:1, I have a 42x1, my parents have one, advised a friend to get one and advised my brother to get 50x1, all are very happy!

I have a 50 X1...great tv... HD cable limited only by the signal quality. BR is great. Std cable is awful... Very happy with it. Price/quality ratio is outstanding...

Clearly better than the Samsung B450 (two sammy owners agreed)

its all in the calibration tho... Use CNet, or AVSforum DNice settings....
