In addition to the first Ghoulies film, MVD will be releasing Ghoulies II on September 12th as well. Unlike the first, this one will just be on Blu-ray at launch, but a 4K release is currently being worked on (see info below).

I was quite excited for this when I saw the 4k announcement of the first film. I suspected part 2 would be announced as well and didn't so much care if it came out on 4k or not, but had high hopes that we'd finally get an uncut release stateside. Sadly, that's not the case and with that, it pretty much killed any desire I had to triple dip on the title.

According to https://www.dvdcompare.net only the German release from NSM Records has the R-rated version in some form:
”The R-rated version is reconstructed using the PG-13 HD master, the deleted scenes (which MGM had in HD but did not allow Scream Factory to reincorporate for their release), and some footage from the British VHS version.” |

I'm used to the NSM uncut version now I can't watch it any other way.
I do understand that reason given, I'm amazed how German releases of Ghoulies 2 and The Punisher 1989 have been allowed to be pieced back together and released. Different laws or less red tape I guess. |

Nice! For some reason I dislike Ghoulies so much that I can hardly watch it, but I quite enjoy Ghoulies II. I sold my Scream Factory double feature a year or so ago because it was selling for a pretty penny, but I may pick this up just to have II back in my collection.

Will this release be added to Movies Unlimited this month? I want to use the 25% off code on it.

The second is a master class in rubber monster puppetry and fun from start to finish. Had part 1 better incorporated the Ghoulies themselves it likely would be much more fondly received, but as is, Ghoulies 2 and 3 should really be the double feature / 2 films that get all the attention. |

See how perfect that slipcover looks, with the sun-bleached, garish colours. It makes me feel like a child, peeking round the front door of the local video shop, drawn by the sight of the illicit-looking visual delights.
We'd laugh at videos like Ghoulies, and Troll - but were terrified by the artwork of A Nightmare on Elm Street 2. That yellow bus, with an omniscient Freddie towering over the skyline like some demented god. Yep: wild-eyed in that video store, thrilling at all the big, beautiful VHS artwork. (The proprietors would kick out my 10-year-old self - and friend - who'd sneak into their shop just to gawp at the video sleeves!) There is such pleasure to be had soaking up the artwork of video tapes; an experience quite distinct from actually watching the (often disappointing) movie. That 'Film Vault' line gets the importance of cover art, with those big, clumsy, beautiful clamshell boxes. I wish I could afford more of 'em.
