So there I am at Frys, perusing the BD racks, and holding 300... a sales person comes up and asks if she can help me find anything....
I tell her that I was looking for the fifth element and maybe weeds season 2... Her reply "If you will follow me, we have Weeds 2 in DVD" I wanted to say, "hellllllooooo.... Mcflyyyy" but instead said, I'm sorry, but I am not wasting anymore money on DVDs. If someone is OBVIOUSLY shopping for Blu Rays, how dumb do you have to be to try to talk them into buying DVDs? And how incredably moronic is the person that lets themselves be talked into it? |

Maybe she wasn't aware that Weeds season 2 was out on blu.
![]() Doesn't sound all that idiotic to me. Maybe if she tried convincing you that DVD was better than blu or something like that..... |

If they work in the BD/DVD/HD-DVD department, it is their bloody job to know.
As for saying that I was looking for them on BD, I left this part out of my original post, because I didn't think it was relavant to the situation, but when I told her what I was looking for, I pointed to the spot on the blu-ray rack and say that they appeared to be sold out... I never cease to be disappointed in the level of intellegence displayed by those in customer service. |

The nerve of that employee!! That's the worst story I've ever heard, you should have demanded to speak to the manager!!

you can't assume they would deduce that you were looking for the blu-ray versions of the movies just because you were looking at the blu-ray. i, personally, would... now if she told you that HD-DVD was just a better version of DVD and that it would play in any player as long as you have an HDTV unlike Blu-ray, then, my friend, you have an idiot of a sales rep. (Personal experience)

I had a girl at Blockbuster tell me that the hd dvds would play in my blu ray player. I politly corrected her, she said they told her that in training. Anyway, wasnt her fault, there is WAY too much misinfomation regarding Blu and HD.

I dont blame the salespeople, i blame the trainers. My uncle works at BestBuy and he came home with a cheat sheet that they provided him to learn about HDTV's and High Def DVD Players. It is amazingly confusing especially for a part-time, night time job. For example, it says "High Definition DVD players are available in 2 formats, HDDVD, which is short for High-Definition DVD, and Blu-Ray DVD which cannot be played in a High Definition Player" "The picture quality of Blu-Ray is higher than a High-Definition Player, but it is important to remember the discs cannot be displayed in a High-Definition Player" So my uncle was telling me, a woman comes in and says she wants a High Definition DVD player, and he asks would you like Blu-Ray or HD-DVD, she says I want the High Definition DVD, so he sells her a HD-DVD player, she comes back the next night demanding to talk to his manager, and she yells at him because she wanted the player that worked on her 1080p tv. The problem i think is the confusion associated with HDDVD and people just saying they want the high-definition dvd player and not specifically saying Blu-Ray. It is like the blind leading the blind.

its mean to say but as someone who worked retail for about 4 years in retail I must say that the majority of people are bottom of the barrel. and you need to tell them what you want. not just point. especially electronics retail.
but if she was cute its ok. hell they may make her my boss. wow. that was some missdirected anger. |

This is odd.
As a salesperson and a accredited Customer Service Representative, i find it funny how often I find the buyer to be so aloof about their actual reason for being in the store, it makes me wonder sometimes how some of these folks manage to make it out of bed alive every, single, day. If you want a clear and concise answer, you might want to feed me a clear and concise question because I'm not a mind reader nor your babysitter for the day. How do I know if you are shopping for yourself or gift shopping for others (read: I don't know if you own a BD player or an HD-DVD player even if you currently have a BD movie in your hand). We all know what to "assume" means right? An example of a properly asked question: Does your store carry Blu-Ray versions of the movies "Fifth Element and maybe "Weeds, Season 2"? Maybe it was a nice way to say you smell. If I meet someone and their breath is reeking I offer mints or gum, "No really you should try it."
