Default Non matched center speaker

Does anyone use a non matched center speaker in there setup? If so, can you tell much of a difference? I would really like to have a larger center but just can't find the Energy C-series speakers anymore.

I had one for a while. It didn't bother me that much and I kept in my system for probably 8 months before I finally got my matching center. The matching center made everything much better, but non matching is definitely something that you can easily live with.

I think it should also be noted that it will depend some on which brands of speakers you're mis-matching. Some speakers have a similar sound and it might not be that noticeable, but other speakers have a considerably different sound so that you probably wouldn't be able to ignore the difference.

Thanks for the reply. I'm thinking about having eD build me a center speaker with 4 drivers. They said I probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference unless I have really good ears.

well the eDs are supposed to be warm sounding also, so they may mesh well with the Energys. I think I saw a C-C1 on sale somewhere. It is the connosiuers before the C-series.

Here it is.... http://www.vidinc.net/energycc1.html

Here are a couple of guys that use different Energy speakers with the C-series speakers, you could PM them and see what they say too.

Mattstat C-500 Fronts RC-Mini Center C-200 Surrounds
he has the RC series center

Wheatpin Energy C-200's Fronts and Surrounds, Energy CC-10 Center
He has the new CC-10 center, I even asked him about it, here is our convo.

Does the CC10 sound out of place with the C-200s, I have heard they sound a lot different, brighter and tinny?
Marantz, Denon, and Sony ES are all options to keep in mind when you upgrade. Be sure to listen to them all.

For instance, when watching Blade Runner I notice tiny little things from the center now, such as when Deckard enters Bryant's office and the venetian blind rattles. Before it barely registered, but now I find I can hear it quite clearly...And some speech when doing the flyby's in the spinners. Just one of those minor things that adds to the immersion factor. Unfortunately, my current setup is in a smaller room, so I am not sure if I have the space for a 7.1 at the current time

I use a eD w6 for a CC, best CC speaker I've owned, even better than the beast of a CC Klipsch RC-7 i had.. I have a mini review over at eD.

If you have decent speakers and they are positioned properly you won't even need a centre channel.

Kinda makes you wonder if one is needed at all, doesn't it? Marketing perhaps? Just throwing that comment out there.
