Talking Larry Charles Directing Jim Carrey in Comedy 'Pierre, Pierre'

Quote:
Perhaps one of the saddest things that both my inner-child and outer-adult has been disappointed with is the downward spiral of Jim Carrey's career after his comedy reign in the 90s. But now both those parts of me may soon rejoice as Deadline is reporting that Carrey will be teaming up with director Larry Charles (responsible for Bruno, Borat and Religulous) for the obnoxious comedy Pierre, Pierre. The comedy will see Carrey playing a self-indulgent, lazy, French nihilist who is transporting a stolen Mona Lisa from Paris to London. On his journey, he comes to love his country again. This is exactly what Carrey needs right now.

With the exception of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Bruce Almighty, the last decade of Carrey's career has been full of mediocre to less than average movies and sometimes even performances. Yes Man was his chance to return to his former glory, but the Liar, Liar reminiscent story just didn't come together. Pierre, Pierre is a comedy that is raunchy, and on the R-rated level of Me, Myself & Irene, which was the last film I truly found Carrey laugh-out-loud hilarious. Though it's a little disappointing that we won't see once-attached director Jason Reitman tackle a comedy like this, Charles is the right director for the job, and it will certainly give Carrey a boost whilst pushing him to his comedic limits again. I can't wait to see how this comedy turns out.
