Default Once on Blu?

Anyone have any idea about Once being released on blu? I know the UK released it on blu in February, but not up for paying $35+ for an import copy of the film. I'd assume it'd be just as easy to release it here, but why not yet?

Great movie! The soundtrack is amazing! Check out Glen Hansard's stuff with The Frames!

Thanks for the link! I think I'll buy it. A couple questions first:

1 - Blu-ray doesn't have region codes to worry about, correct?

2 - Anyone know if my U.S. Prime membership will work?

I ordered it from amazon.uk last week. It should hopefully arrive this week. It is region free according to this site and others.

Bluray does have different region codes, if it is region free then you are okay, if it is region b locked, then you cant play it on a US PS3 or any other region a player.

im not sure about question number 2

Thanks. It looks to be region free, so I think we're good.

As for the Prime, no-go, as there's really no 2 day int'l shipping. Though the overseas shipping is only 6-10 days and not expensive, so its not bad. Total is about $19 US.

Thanks for the help!

FYI, there is a review of the import on this site here. I'm considering making this my first import, as it's quite cheap, I love the movie, and I don't think Fox is going to put it out any time soon.

A good place to check for region problems is : http://bluray.liesinc.net

If it defaults to Region A releases, there are region selections at the top.
Otherwise, the direct link to Region B releases is : http://bluray.liesinc.net/index.php?region=b

Your US Prime membership won't do anything for you, but the standard Royal Mail option is usually pretty quick, about 4 days to the States.

Plus, for 10 pounds, it's a heckuva deal.

And yes, it's region free, though the extras are PAL and won't play on your US machine.

Once is an amazing import. One of my most treasured Blu-ray purchases. No reason not to import it, as I'm sure Fox won't be releasing it in the US anytime soon. Plus the bonus features will play in certain US machines. My Samsung 1500 plays it on my Samsung HDTV (with 120 hz) but it won't play on my PS3 with the same TV...so your milage may vary. The film plays on all players I've tried it on....BD35, 1500, 2550, PS3. It's definately region free, audio is DTS HS-MA Stereo...AVC encode. There is a review posted already, and several threads dedicated to this subject.

Any idea if the extras play on your BD35? I have a BD30, and I'm hoping I can play them.

No extras, huh? I have a PS3, so since your experience with the PS3 was no good, I can assume the same.

I may hold off now. Extras are usually not a make-or-break for me, but I like to listen to commentary tracks now and again. At $19 with no bonus features (and only 2.0 audio mix), as much as I enjoyed this film, I'll probably wait and see for now...

The audio commentaries on the UK BD play on the U.S. PS3. It's just the video extras that don't.

It's the same extras that are on the USA DVD release, so I would just keep the DVD for the features, and watch the Blu-ray to view the movie. The import is such a great addition to any collection. And the stereo audio is the way it was mixed for theaters, so it's not like a 5.1 is going to do anything a Pro-logic receiver can't. The audio's original elements were low budget so it's great that we have a lossless mix of the original theatrical track.
