Default PS3's menu pops up during playback

Last couple times I watched a Blu-ray on my PS3, the control menu would appear without my pressing any buttons. It vanished when I hit the triangle again; but I do wonder why its happening.

DLing new firmware requires that I move my cable modem. I'm at 1.8 now; would an update fix it?

i have the exact same problem, it happens a few times a movie... doesn't matter what movie it is, i think it has something to do with the blue tooth...
it is annoying though, i would have to say that is my only complaint with the PS3.

I have the same problem. It's very random. I was hoping it would go away with firmware updates, but it hasen't.

It is my understanding now, if you turn off the controller, you can continue to watch the movie, but you won't have the problem with the control menu. I have tried this. The control menu has never come up when it was off.

I used to have the problem but don't any more. Make sure your controller is fully charged, and then in most cases, there is no need to leave the controller on while watching the movie, so just turn it off.

i've never had that problem, get a remote rather than using the controller.

Do you have the PS3 Blu-ray remote? I use that all the time, definitely worth it. You should also update your firmware first. I use a, Apple Airport Extreme (and an express to extend the signal) and it works marvelously. If you don't want to go apple, there are lots of wireless routers out there that are fairly cheap that your PS3 will be able to use. I recommend this cause you should never move your cable modem to get something online. It is easy to add wireless to an existing wired system, and it gives you great flexibility.
All my consoles use wireless and it's protected. My Wii, my PS3, my 2 laptops, etc all use the wireless part but I still have 2 pcs connected via wired LAN.
It's worth the price to get a wireless router.
