Default I got a silly question about Blu-rays.

Okay I've been just wondering lately that I'm not getting the best out of my blurays.

Don't get me wrong, they look great but I usually watch them during the daytime so sometimes a glare or something. It's not fully dark but I'm wondering, if the room was fully dark and it was nighttime would the picture stand out more or am I just coming off as an idiot right now? I know my tv is at its best settings for sure.

It would obviously be a lot better image at night without any glare and light sources in the room effecting the picture.

Yeah that is true without the glare but that's like time from time.

If you are getting a glare on your screen from sunlight, yes that could affect how the picture will look. It doesn't have to be pitch black in the room. Just a few curtains to block out some of that light should make for a better movie experience.

With LCD's it should be less of a problem. Plasma is amazing, when in the dark. If you have the ability to darken the room, the picture will always get better.

i enjoy watching my tv more at night. I have a window behind the couch and even with roll down shades and heavy curtains some light does get in and there is a glare.

1080p though happens 24 hours a day, it never takes a break

Which movies? Some either won't get much of an upgrade from HD and some just got poor transfers. Heck, sometimes it's both.

I suggest black or dark colored curtains- they have worked wonders for me.

I think after a while, we get so used to watching movies in HD, that now the WOW factor is gone. If you were to go without your t.v. and blu-ray player for a month, and only watch a standard t.v., and shows, then get your stuff back, it would be like having seen movies in HD for the first time. I know from experience, and I missed the hell out of my eye candy lol.

Well when I watched Benjamin Button, it looked great but it didn't blow me away. Or Moon. They're crystal clear and shiny but War sums it up I believe.

I think what World War says kind of sums how I feel. To me HD has become a normal tv, I opt for HD television and it's become a daily part of my life. Everytime i go to my SD tv I question the quality. Did it get degraded or something and basketball games look like garbage on it. I say to myself how did I manage to watch this?

And day by day I question bluray asking myself can it get better? Am I getting the true experience. I guess now I know I'm not the only one. Sometimes it becomes harder to question if one of my upscaled dvds is on par with a bluray.

I remember seeing Office and Seinfeld in HD, especially Seinfeld, my jaw dropped.

The only movie that really blew me away was Godfather. Since it looks so improved and clear.

Your t.v can also play a big part in your experience also. I had a cheap piece of junk 1080i RCA, before upgrading to a 1080p mitsubishi, and BAM! Watching shows like Wheel of Fortune, and Dancing With the Stars blew me away. The colors were all so very vibrant.

Well my TV is fine. TV plays in 1080i I guess that's the highest they get broadcasted in or something but blurays are 1080. I remember watching the Golden Globes and I was stunned at how good it looked. You c

Alot of factors do come into play. I brought over my PS3 to a friends house one time to watch Transformers ROTF. It looked like crap compared to my t.v. I ain't knocking their set...they have a decent Samsung. But, it's only 720p with 1080i upconverting, and their t.v. wasn't calibrated right.

you're aware that 1080i is a lower resolution than 720p, correct?

Is it really? I could maybe have mistaken it for something else then. It looks like you're in the show with them. I always thought 1080i is the backstage effect?
Pioneer PDP-6020FD

How is that rated by you guys?

and I usually switch between Dynamic and Sport Mode. If anyone owns it, what settings do you use?

Pioneer PDP-6020FD is your TV? Yes having a set of shades/blinds would benefit you greatly since you have a plasma, its a great 1080p TV.. A lot of HD tv shows are broadcast in 1080i or 720p, but yes 1080i is basically 540p. for the most part all blurays are in 1080p with a few exceptions. for the settings i'm not really sure which is best for that particular tv but i'm assuming you havent had it ISF calibrated?

Like when I watch these movies, the image is beautiful with the outdoor scenes but I guess I'm becoming a bit spoiled with HD because I now consider SD garbage. It's a shame really.

I'm not sure if it's ISF calibrated or not since I have no idea what it means. I wish I was more of a techie because I'd like to have a knowledge about these things more. Though I'm probably going to switch tvs since I want a good cheap one under 700 for my room. No disturbances and My room is very dark and I could watch any time i'd like.

We do have shades but the upper part of the shades has a little opening it ruins stuff but since we have rain for couple of days nothing's going to affect the tv so I really want to test stuff out since I just bought a new bluray (500 days of summer)

I too hate SD, I can't stand watching SD anymore, its also hard for me to watch TV on anything smaller than 42".
Imaging Science Foundation (ISF) is just when a professional comes out to calibrate your tv to the best of its ability. My plasma is actually being calibrated this week

Really? Who is deemed as a professional and how much does it end up costing usually? My friend's dad who is really good with these kind of things and he set up his own tv to its best settings, (their tv really made me want to fix mine which I ended up doing) but I always feel something is amiss.

And try watching a sports game in SD, it's disgusting. We lost out on some HD channels sadly because Dish changed their HD offering, we lost TNT HD for TBS HD. Mostly the useless channels are HD except the local ones.
