I'll do my best to share news and developments about Sentai (and HIDIVE by extension) here as it happens. Right now, some of the new content they have coming up that catch my attention are Dusk Beyond the End of the World, a P.A. Works Original, Petals of Reincarnation, a co-production between Sentai and Benten Film, and of course the Princess Principal: Crown Handler chapters as they roll out (up next should be #4). Of the current series they have streamed this year so far, I am awaiting discs releases of Sorairo Utility, Flower and Asura, Rock is a Lady's Modesty and Bad Girl. I can't wait to see what else they distribute next!

What I am appreciating more and more about Sentai is their commitment to reprints. Usually with new artwork, so that you can easily tell each printing apart.

Hoping Sentai dips their toes into more classic anime like Glass Mask and Panzer World Galient.

Someone else can go into more detail if interested, but for anyone unaware Sentai is one of the few companies who do make new discs with re-releases.

Any Blu-ray SKU released before 2015 usually had iffy video quality or outdated codecs. The re-releases from 2015 onward look much better. Subtitles errors are usually fixed for re-releases as well.

Only benefit to the original SKU might be some extra features that weren't kept and unlocked subs that can be turned on & off without restrictions.

It was actually slightly before 2015, although I'm not exactly sure of where the dividing line is; the November 2014 re-release of High School of the Dead fixed the problems of the earlier BD release, for example, as did the October 2014 re-release of Bodacious Space Pirates. So late 2014 BDs should be fine, although, again, not sure when in 2014 it stopped being a problem.

Cobra The Psycogun set is way out of print, it's one of my favorite sets from them. I also hope that Golgo series comes back in print. And Votoms obviously needs the remaster in USA.

True. Some 2014 titles I owned like Short Peace and Samurai Bride weren't authored by David Williams (Nick Lee took over) but 2014 was before Joel McCray took over for several years and then Sentai's Blu-ray reputation started to recover.

I think in The Anime Blu-ray Video Quality Thread I remember reading one user was shocked that Brynhildr in the Darkness (2015) had none of the issues many Sentai Blu-rays up to that point frequently had.


Also I vaguely remember reading that while the 2014 collector's edition for High School of the Dead did fix some issues it also had some new ones... So David Williams still might have worked on it. I remember ordering it and then returning it asap. I'm glad it was re-released again in 2022 & 2023

My biggest regret collection-wise was not getting their Legend of the Galactic Heroes set when I had a chance. It'll haunt me until someone (likely Discotek) saves the license.

I would pay good money if they put out GS Mikami on Blu ray if they still have the license.

It might also be worth mentioning that Luminous Witches was never in-print to begin with, which is out-of-character for Sentai who rarely skips putting out titles on disc.

They don't do SD Blu-ray anymore and that show got not one but two in Japan, with the movie included in the second set, so here's hoping Discotek gets both.

That's unfortunate I was hoping for a native HD release but I'll take what I can get. I wonder why Toei never did an HD transfer. I'm guessing film elements don't exist anymore? Cause Mikami was certainly a show that was popular enough back in the day for it to be worth it for them if it was possible.

One title that slipped through my radar was The Pet Girl of Sakurasou. I bought the subbed only version back in 2018, and didn't know they re-released a dubbed version in 2020. And by the time I realized there was a newer version with a dubbed track, it already went OOP right before I could purchase it.

Princess Tutu a 10/10 series for me (bought it on DVD set, BluRay, then steelbook)
From the New World, another 10/10. Yes, would buy a steelbook release.
