Default Movies on Blu-ray - Very Well Loved Movies Getting Most Attention?

Reading Blu-ray reviews, does any one feel as though studios only give movies that are very much cherished the utmost care and attention?

For example, animated Disney classics, Casablanca and The Sound of Music would get all the love and care resulting in a superb Blu-ray release with excellent picture and sound quality along with a great assortment of extras whereas not very much liked movies only getting adequate attention aka Rocketeer and possibly Supergirl (I enjoy that movie!).

Depends on who is releasing the movie to be honest. If you are talking about a studio like Paramount or, until recently, Universal, you'd be right. Disney is hit and miss, but I'd like to think their standards are slowly creeping up. Warner Brothers is OK, but I wish more movies would be getting Blu ray packed to the gills releases then usually are. Now, if it's a Criterion or a Kino release, you're wrong. I have yet to see a release from either studio that does not treat each and every movie that they can like gold. Image does that too, but their release window is far far too narrow recently.

Just my opinion.

It makes sense to me that they'd spend the most time and money on the titles that have the greatest sales potential.

That's how it's always been, or the producers come in and produce the bonus features. It's kind of a shame that some movies deserve it but at the same time most of these movies I like so I'm happy with the bonus platter

That's exactly what is going on. Considering the high level of fidelity with today's technology in screens and Blu-ray, the studios have shown just how lacking in integrity they really are. So in one hand, you have the promise in technology that is clearly there, and in the other.....studio lack of integrity. Just like the Talking Heads have said: Same as it ever was.

If there are Project Supervisors for all these releases, who would do a better job? A person who totally despises the title or someone who loves every minute?

I honestly think they should get fans of the movie to help contribute and the head of home video to compromise to get a fair price release but a well worthy release too

Kino actually has quite a few "barebones" releases, and they often do a terrible job on the soundtracks to their silent films - some truly bizarre musical accompaniments (both from DVD's era and carrying over to blu-ray). They are also releasing some blu-rays sourced from heavily damaged prints (in some cases, like on Buster Keaton shorts, where a superior print was used on a prior DVD release and yet on a couple of the Kino sources it looks like someone spilt coffee all over the film reels). They actually annoy me at times, although they have a treasure trove of good stuff as well. I just wish they always put the "extra care" into their releases, because I don't think they are close to Criterion in that regard.
