Default Remaing Stanley Kubrick Films

Not sure if this has been covered, but a search turned up zero results. Anyway, is there any info on the remaining Kubrick films turning up on blu? I see that paths of glory has been added to the site, but no release date. Also I'd love to see the film Fear and Desire, so if anyone knows where a dvd releasse can be had let me know.

Thanks

Fear and Desire won't get a release, possibly ever. Kubrick didn't like the film, and didn't want anyone to see it. The early Kubrick movies, Killer's Kiss, The Killing and Paths of Glory are rumored to getting a Criterion treatment. Barry Lyndon and Lolita will get a Blu-ray release from Warner some day, but when exactly is still a mystery.

Thanks,
good info on the early films, and too bad for fear and desire. I did find this site with the dvd for sale. Have you or anyone else ever dealt with them?

I personally haven't. Since there are no known prints of it, I think the quality is probably not that good, but I can be mistaken.

I hate to be negative, but I just can't see Warner giving Barry Lyndon the quality release that it deserves. I can see the mediocre picture quality now...

It's one of my most-wanted Blus.

I don't know, it seems to have a decent transfer on DVD if I remember right. I predict that on Blu-Ray it'll probably look similar to "The Shining."

I'm keeping my hopes up.

I guess I can't see them investing much money into it when it's not a very popular title. After all, I don't think the reason the other Kubricks were released, what, almost four years ago, with no sign of Barry Lyndon, is because Warner is doing an amazing, in-depth restoration and transfer with a load of new special features.

I remember seeing a nice HD presentation of Barry Lyndon on HDNet Movies a couple of years ago. It looked fantastic! I have no doubt it will eventually be released on Blu. It is too highly respected among the film community to not get the recognition it deserves. Count me among the waiting...

I would be thrilled to see Criterion do The Killing! Hope that happens before long.

Oh man...The Killing getting the Criterion treatment..that would be great.

I've been waiting for Barry Lyndon for a long time..it hasn't even received a dvd re-issue since '01 so it's sorta sad.

I've got some good news and some bad news.

The good news is that Criterion has already done The Killing.

The bad news is that it was 20+ years ago, and on laserdisc.

cant wait for The Killing and Paths of Glory... as someone who started with Kubs later work (Clockwork, Strangelove, Eyes Wide Shut, 2001) those 2 films were a surprise to me with their standard hollywood feel... and were still great.

As soon as they put an announcement out, I'll be pre-ordering all of them.

All of Kubrick's films are must-own titles.

Fear and Desire is available in a non-USA-region DVD release in PAL format, so if you have the technology, you can watch it. If you don't I don't think it would be worth it to gear up just for that purpose.

Paths of Glory on Blu-ray will be out from Criterion Collection October 26, for $39.95, discounted to $31.96 if ordered from their webstore.

I should also mention that though Spartacus is already available in Blu-ray, it is not the Criterion Collection version and I have been told that it is inferior to the Criterion Collection DVD. So it would be great if Criterion would do that for BD too; consider it not yet done.

The crux, of course, is Barry Lyndon. A good BD release of a restored Barry would be a messianic event, IMHO.

Considering Universal has their BD already out, I doubt Criterion will get the Blu-ray rights to it. For a while anyway.
