Default Martin Logan Preface Thoughts...?

I have been considering some new fronts for my home theater system, current JBLs, and ran across the Martin Logan Preface speakers last night at the Magnolia store. I really have not heard of them, but not being an audiophile it doesn't surprise me. I really have been eye'n them for a month now.

I pulled the trigger last night and bought the pair for $500. From what I found that is a great deal.

What do you guys think of the speakers and the deal? I hooked them up last night, and they sound amazing. Very crisp and clean.

$500 is spectacular I demo'ed them at Best Buy also and they sounded great and look sweet. Good choice!

you got a good deal on some good speakers. Im pretty sure the Matinee is the matching center channel, although the Matinee is from the ESL line, I think its it still voice matched because of the use of the materials for the CLS™ Generation 2 Electrostatic Panel, is also used in the ATF line.

just looked it up... you can use the ESL lines center channel with the Preface....
Quote:
Application Versatility
Preface's size, styling, and performance make it suitable for almost any speaker application, even in combination with our electrostatic models. In small rooms or large, as part of a stereo music system or in a home theater as fronts, surrounds, or both, Preface delivers.
I think your going to find these a much better speaker and in 2-channel they will rock, detail and depth... nice choice.

I will look into that center. I really had no plan of buying these speakers. I already had a sweet 7.1 setup with JBLs, but I just could not pass these up. It amazed me how much cleaner they where. They are going to rock my 7.1!

That is a smokin' deal on a pair of towers. There have been a few other members here looking at them and they have quoted $800-1000 for the pair.

Last time I was in my local BB they had them for $800 for the pair. That was about a month ago though, so maybe I'll swing by soon and check again.

809s*

Yes, I am. I actually listened to the Prefaces and while I was impressed, I didn't think they were nearly as good as the electrostatics. I'm still planning on the 809s, hopefully by the end of the month.

I got them hooked up yesterday... And decided to watch the Ed Norton "Hulk" all I can say is... D-A-M-N. Hands down some great speakers... Gonna force me to upgrade my center though Amazingly clear highs, and nice warm lows.

That is ok. His wife already hates him for buying the big bad ED sub. Maybe your wife and his wife should get together and have a double hate party.

Which when you think about it is a double negative, so it's all positive!

You got a great deal, I paid twice as much for them and I don't regret it. I use the Encore as the center and it sounds pretty good.

What are everyone's thoughts on the Encore center? Is it going to be better than my current center? Is it worth the 200$

This is my current center. http://www.amazon.com/JBL-Center-Cha.../dp/B000EZ764E

I am thinking about pulling the trigger on it off amazon. Its 199$ may be good to pick it up before avatar gets here. Thanks for the opinions.
