I have my HDTV, I have my Blu-ray player and I am building my movie collection back up (but in Blu), but I haven't bought a sound system in years. I am not even hooking my current system up because I know it's worthless. I am always drawn to the HTIB's because of their prices and EVERYTHING is in the box even though it might not be top quality everything. If I had to buy a HTIB what is the best one under $1000. If I chose to piece it together what is the best setup I could afford under $1000. It just seems so hard to buy a receiver, speakers, and sub for under $1000. Any advice? Do I need to run wires or can I go wireless and not lose too much sound? The only way to run wires in my house in in the ceiling.

you may want to go a store where you could here the difference between the two kind of systems, then you could know if you were willing to pay more for the increased quality or if the htib would satisfy you. yours is a common question, but no one can really tell you what you are willing to pay for

You could go with a good midrange receiver on sale online like the Pioneer VSX-919AH-K from NewEgg, Amazon or similar and purchase speakers from an online auction like eBay. CNET has good reviews.
Wireless speakers will never be quite right. They seem to cut out. It's not so bad for the base, but the surrounds are really irritating. The only wireless setup up that seems to work is with a wireless router like an airport express. |

My choice for an HTiB would be Onkyo. Either the HT-S6200 or the HT-S7200 would be excellent choices. Both are very highly rated and handle all of the HD audio codecs. They also feature HDMI repeaters, which means you just connect your accessories, such as your Blu-ray player and sat/cable box, to the receiver via HDMI, and then run a single HDMI to your HDTV. These two HTiBs sell so well that many retailers have trouble keeping them in stock.
