Default Either Pioneer VSX-1020-K or Pioneer Elite VSX-21TXH

I currently have a Onkyo SR 706 that's giving me a little issue so im just going to buy another reciever. I want to pick one up today. Please advise me which one to get between the two.

The VSX-1020_k is a 2010 model that is 3D ready (HDMI 1.4). Check out the comparative specs.

Depends on your needs. Do you need height speakers, HDMI 1.4 and 3D capability? I have the 1020 and I'm loving it, but if you don't need HDMI 1.4 then you may want to go with the Elite since its a higher end receiver with more power. I think you would be happy with either, but you may as well get the more powerful one if you have no need for the newer features. I personally wanted the new features so I went with the 1020.

I had the pioneer 1019 and upgraded 9 months later to the elite sc 25. No comparison between the two. I would say any elite receiver would be a vast improvement over a non-elite. If I had been aware of the difference I would have been a little more patient and not wasted my money on the non-elite.

thanks guys! i decided to go with the 1020 and after i hooked up all up, it just doesnt sound like the Onkyo 706 i have. i think i may go back to the onkyo now. Question.. would it be such a big downgrade if i go from a 706 to a 608? would i get the same performance i have with the 706 with the 608?

Pioneer sounds vastly different from Onkyo. Its all a matter of preference. I myself like both, but I do prefer Pioneer. I have an Onkyo in the bedroom that does indeed match up very well with the Energy speakers I have back there. Some receivers go better with certain speakers, and like I said its all a matter of what you like. If you prefer the Onkyo sound then go with the 608. Its much beefier than last year's receiver. Its pretty much a 706 with the latest features added and minus the pre-outs.
