Default V/H/S Now Available On Actual VHS!

"V/H/S" is now available to order through Amazon.com

From Bloody-Disgusting.com - "If you’re a fan of V/H/S and were waiting on something a little more lo-fi than on the DVD and Blu-ray this past December in the US, you’re in luck! That VHS cassette version of the film we talked about last month is available for pre-order now! Supplies are limited, I believe."

V/H/S comes from filmmakers Adam Wingard (You’re Next, A Horrible Way to Die, Pop Skull), Simon Barrett (You’re Next, Dead Birds, Red Sands), Ti West (The House of the Devil, The Roost, The Innkeepers), David Bruckner (The Signal), Joe Swanberg (Silver Bullets), Glenn McQuaid (I Sell the Dead), and Radio Silence.

Same thing happened with House of the Devil. Pretty cool, but can't say I'm gonna get a copy.

I love "The House of the Devil". Glad I was able to pick up a copy of that on VHS before it disappeared. Yeah, I know a bunch of people didn't enjoy "V/H/S". It's understandable. I think it's a fun little movie. Then again, I'm easy to please. Lol.

Why feel sorry for them? and it's not that funny or strange. If they're buying it, they're excited to have it. I follow quite a few people on instagram and tumblr who collect VHS' instead of dvd's and blu-rays. Those people would get an instant hard-on for a new horror film being released on VHS. They'd probably pay $50+ for it. It's an oddity, a collectors item and apparently limited. It makes sense that it's more expensive on that basis. If it were just a mass produced VHS, obviously at that price it would be laughable.

I think this would be worth the purchase alone for what it's representing, even if the person never watches it. Since the movie is based around a VHS tape and that's what we're supposedly watching it on, then I feel like this is the perfect collector's item to go along with the Blu-ray release.

Fantastic marketing idea in concept...

One of the most terrible marketing ideas in actualization!

Are people really willing to spend that kind of money on something of this nature? How long before the functioning VCR population on the planet reduces to the point of being impossible to find one?

I just think that it's a bit loco to invest THAT kind of money for something so old school tech.

Even as a collector, how many people could you honestly show something like this to and actually get a "Wow! No way! That's awesome!!!" reaction from? It's more likely that it will get the same reaction from people as when I tell them that I know all of the lyrics to Ice Ice Baby by heart!

Does it come with the soundtrack on a cassette tape?

VHS is never going to be cool again like vinyl.

Based on your response I thought it was like $50. Checked the link, I think $25 is about right for something like this, I don't see how that's a crazy high price.

I could be wrong, but I'd think most people buying this don't intend to actually watch it on a VCR. Collectables are just that, it's the same reason people will import a steelbook for triple the price even though the content is the same.

I think this is awesome, but I wouldn't buy it. I passed on the aforementioned House of the Devil one as well, and I love that movie. Despite not being my thing personally, I still think it's a pretty cool thing to have.

Like I said, a great idea in concept. And I think it's pretty cool by design.

But, with the technology being what it is today, any VHS tape should be selling at less than DVD prices. And, I fail to see how this would be considered a collectible. Collectibles are meant to make people who see them stop a minute and say, "Oh. Wow. That's pretty cool. Where did you get that?" In this case, I don't know a single person who would do anything but stop a minute and think (not necessarily say out loud), "Wow. Is that a VHS tape? Why would you bother still keeping that junk?"

It's meant as a collector's item for people that love this movie.

I've never seen it, but I don't see this being any different than anyone that bought the Dark Knight collector's edition just because it came with the bat cowl, or the Dark Knight Returns Best Buy Exclusive just because it came with a toy.

It's a collector's piece. The movie is called V/H/S, and the movie is based on that premise. People buy imported steel book covers for a few hundred books because they love that movie. Or the people that paid extra for a Call of Duty special collector's release boxset that was like $100.

Would I personally buy this? I've never seent he movie so I have no idea. But if I loved the movie that much I probably would buy it.

I'm kind of scratching my head at some of you assuming someone's going to buy this to play it over and over in a VCR as if it somehow means VHS are making a comeback.

It is a collector's item. Just because you don't think it's a collector's item doesn't mean it isn't to someone else.

It's a collector's item because VHS' are rare and they are nostalgic. They only did this because the movie is called VHS and the movies premise is apparently compilation of VHS tapes.

It's not like WB decided to release The Dark Knight on VHS and say it was a special edition. There's no correlation like there is for this movie.

An interesting novelty collectible for 2013, I suppose. I still have a bit of nostalgia for rummaging through video stores as a kid and seeing wall to wall of VHS, though I have no interest in ever owning any again.

Is this movie filmed on V/H/S? In cinema's, or on blu/DVD, do the VHS sequences change to 1.33:1? Is it low quality? Or is it one of those amazing cameras used that looks HD when it is apparently not, ala Cloverfield?

As a fan of many films myself, I can understand what you are trying to say. But, again, it just seems a bit illogical and ridiculous in this case.

You bring up steelbook packaging and the "toy inclusive" editions that get released, but you keep failing to understand that those all still come with a modern functional version of the film on a format which is compatible with current tech. If this was a VHS case for a Blu-ray release, then I'd understand. Hell, if I were in charge of the marketing team, I'd even go as far as making it the first ever BD + VHS COMBO PACK! At least that would make more sense than just putting out the film on a long dead format as a collectible on its own.

THAT is the reason I find this hard to swallow in actual execution.

Is it really that hard to see why people would want this? This forum is filled with some of the snobbiest, most full of themselves people I've come across online.

I actually just pulled the trigger on this myself. I love this movie a lot and it would be very cool to own it on VHS. I miss VHS and I grew up with it and have many fond memories of those shitty tapes. I would love to own The House of the Devil on VHS as well but I missed out on it and the prices are pretty high for it. Thanks for bringing this to my attention donnaholic89.
