Default First Ever PS3 Problem

I was in the middle of playing a game. I had it paused to check a few things, and suddenly found it had gone out. Not JUST out...but like no power out. I tried turning off the switch and then turning it back on, and it seemed to work...only it went back off again. Now nothing I do will give it power again. I should mention I had this PS3 since 2007.

Does your LED light flash yellow? Have you tried plugging it in a different power outlet? Does the red LED light go on and off when you flip the power swith off and on?

When your PS3 shut off the first time did the LED light flash yellow?

Honestly I never noticed. It just turned off, and I didn't even realize it was the PS3 cuase i was doing something else for a small bit. When I got back to the PS3 to continue my g ame, that's when I realized that the remote was turned off. I tried to turn the remote back on and it just kept flashing. I looked at the system and it was turned off with not even the red light indicating standby.

Well my friend, from the information that you have given. I have come to the possible conclusion that your system has bricked. Which means that it is dead. My advice to you is to call Sony's customer support hotline and tell them what happened. I assume that you don't have any extended warranties right? If so then if you want Sony to fix your system you will have to pay them $250. I also assume that your system is a 40GB right? If your system is anything but a 20GB, 60GB or 80GB I suggest you just salvage what you can from your system and just buy a new slim or find a used 60 or 80GB.

Although if you do indeed send your system into Sony, there is no guarantee that you will get your exact system back. Also, you will need to remove your Hard Drive Disk from your PS3 and transfer all of its data onto a computer. Sony wipes all HDD's they get in broken PS3's.

Thank you for the diagnosis. I'll probably just get a new system when I can. Coarse that means I still gotta find out how to get Little Big Planet from the system.

You can just open it up with screwdrivers, OR, smash it open. I advise you remove your Hard Drive Disk from your system so you can still salvage all your gamesaves and all the other data stored on your HDD.

If you send it to Sony, make sure you say that your game was stuck inside. When I got the YLOD(Yellow Light of Death) I had a game inside and when I called Sony so that they can fix it for me I did mention that my game was stuck inside. So when got PS3 back they put the game disc inside a cd sleeve and I was able to play it again without having to buy a whole new copy.

Just a question, but did you check to see if your power cord is securely plugged into the back of the unit? I just had this happen a little bit ago.

I thought LittleBIGPlanet has a protection thing where you can't transfer the data between systems? Don't certain Sony games have that?

I can't tell you about Little Big Planet, but yes, some games have copy protection. I believe some Capcom games have this.

I was going to ask this as well but I figured that since he messed with the power switch on the back of the console then he checked the power cord.

I as well got the YLOD and had my game stuck inside. I'm usually away from home so I really haven't had the chance to call Sony. I was wondering about the HDD transfer.

I think someone said you have to transfer it to your computer, because I had a lot of saved games on there and what not. I bought a new PS3 and tried swaping the HDD but Sony put a block on that so people don't copy each others crap I suppose. So you can take the HDD out of the PS3 and transfer it to your computer?

Yes, you can use a HDD encloser or insert your PS3 HDD into your PC manually. I have never heard of anyone not being able to swap HDD's seeing as the PS3 is made to be able to accept any 2.5" notebook HDD.
