Now I think, the price of 1199/- INR is somewhat OK..

Remember zEROS, shelling out BDs at 1000 /- + INR, and this time they crossed their mark with throwing away single layer BD for 999/- INR..

Thumbs up

Wow. Now this is how a blu-ray should be.

Great PQ, lossless audio, no watermark, all extras ported over from the DVD, both those on-AND-off disc. The only way this could be more impressive would be if the extras were somehow in HD (are they?), have the option to be subtitled (are they?) and if the film featured a 7.1 mix instead of 5.1.

Sure there's still some minor problems, like the totally unnecessary inclusion of the Dolby Digital mix, but hopefully this is not some kind of "Aamir Khan fluke" but the announcement of a new era for T-Series. In any case, I feel that after over two years Saawariya has finally been beaten for best overall package and that Taare Zameen Par has become the new gold standard that every Indian release should attempt to reach.

But T-Series had to go spoil it by grossly over pricing the package.

Considering the amount of stuff packaged in this release, I don't think the price is that excessive. 1199 Rs converts to approx. $25. Check out something like the barebones release of Gone With The Wind. What is the MSRP? $25. Now check out American collector's editions comparable to this release, what are the MSRPs? Between $50 and $100.

At last...one of my most awaited release finally available...

For the first time although I am quite tempted, but I don't want to comment on Screenshots and rather see it myself and then comment for this BD particularly. There are two reasons for that

1. SS capture method is difficult to verify - if it was done properly
2. In the laptop monitor I am seeing now with 1440 * 900 res, some shots are looking slightly soft to me and that may not be the case at all...

Look forward to actual user reviews and opinions

I will be going to India in October and may do a stopover in Delhi...won't mind meeting some members in Delhi for a catch-up and some coffee or something....if ppl are interested....sometimes it helps to meet in person and put faces to names we see here...

Anyone from Delhi here?

Doesn't look like this is available in the US? I'm guessing thats because Disney holds the overseas rights. Is there a Disney Bluray release on the cards? Or should I just get this one from India?

It doesn't look like Disney is eager to release it on Blu-ray, because they probably didn't sell as many copies as they'd hoped on DVD and, as a result, they might see little demand for the movie on BD. Even for the DVD, they kept delaying the release all the way to 2010, even though they were manufactured in 2009 and it says "2009 release" on the DVD itself. Disney, Fox and WB have yet to release a Bollywood movie on Blu-ray.

Considering that this is an Indian release only, the conversion to US dollars is irrelevant, specially for those who live in India. Even then for arguments sake let's evaluate the price. First of all please keep in mind that in India it is not easy for the average person to get any discounts, let alone the deep discounts offered online in the US, which at times are upto even 70% off. Thus pretty much MSRP is the bottom line price for most in India. More importantly, converting the prices at face value conversion of Rupee to the US dollar is misleading at the least. The correct way of comparing would be to convert to US dollars using the PPP (purchasing power parity) rate of the Rupee. If you do that, the MSRP would translate to approximately US $45 - 50 if not higher. Now if you were to take into account the capacity earn in India, then any price comparison becomes totally irrelevant. The other way to look at pricing is to compare the Blu-ray pricing to that of DVDs. In the US a BD on an average costs only 25% - 35% more than the DVD. Whereas, T-Series has priced the 'Taare Zameen Par' blu-ray only a 140% more than the Rs. 499 price of the special edition DVD of 'Taare Zameen Par'. By the way, the contents and packaging of the Blu-ray are identical to those of the DVD. Bottom line is, that although almost all BDs in India are already over priced, this release from T-Series is outright fleecing nad a rip off. Why do I get the feeling that T-Series has priced this keeping in mind the overseas market, knowing that Disney will probably never release this on blu-ray.

PS: The minimum wage in India is only Rs. 3600 per month. Which translates into Rs. 43200 per annum or Rs. 831 per week or Rs. 21 per hour. Converted to US dollars, that works out to less than half a dollar per hr compared to approximately $8 per hr in the US.

Completely agree with you on the purchasing power. Rs 1199 is an awful amount of money for a BD. With this kind of pricing Blu-ray will never become popular in India as it will be out of reach for common people.

Agreed. Once you live overseas and earn a bit more it becomes affordable but back in India common man will never pay that much of money for a movie.
