South Park - 2012

Trey Parker and Matt Stone have never been shy about their love of gaming. From Randy Marsh playing Guitar Hero in his underpants to the legendary "Make Love, Not Warcraft" episode, the comic duo have demonstrated an obvious familiarity with the medium. Now that they've conquered television, film, and Broadway, the next target on their hit list is the gaming industry.

Thanks to a collaboration with THQ and Obsidian, Parker and Stone are writing the script, performing the dialogue, and overseeing the development of South Park: The Game. Unlike the cash-in Acclaim titles from over a decade ago, this ambitious project is a full-scale RPG for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC. As the new kid in South Park, it'll be up to you to make friends and defend the town from a wide range of threats. Funny. When I saw this thread I thought that the only way it could be good is if it was an RPG. And it is.

WHY? THQ must like throwing away its money. This game won't sell no matter how good it is. Sad that people have to put effort into things like these.

And your basing this off of what exactly? The fact that South Park is still a million dollar franchise that sells a shit ton of products including games, one of the most popular animated shows on TV.

As the lead designer on Fallout 2 and one of the founders of RPG-centric Obsidian Entertainment, Urquhart and the rest of the team are not approaching South Park: The Game as a simple licensed title. A lot of thought is going into the challenge of creating a light-hearted experience that's enjoyable for fans of the show but also appeals to fans of Obsidian's deep RPG heritage. We spoke with the CEO of Obsidian Entertainment about how the South Park project began, working with the wildly creative minds of South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker, and how the team at Obsidian is approaching the opportunity to create a massive 2D RPG based on one of the most successful animated shows in history.

Mega fail, as fixed before, its Professor Chaos. Their reflections are also from the Lord of the Rings/back door sluts 9 episode, not the ninja episode or others where Prof Chaos appears.

This game will sell... South Park is still huge and most RPS fans are South Park fans too. Also, there are a ton of RPS fans that are dying for a classic rpg and here comes one with basically Final 7 fighting engine and the comedy relief of South Park. I am not saying this is game of the year, but it will move a lot of copies and will be fairly cheap to make.

Past games like this haven't sold. Licensed games barely sell (there are exceptions i.e. Batman). There is no demand for a full fledged South Park game. I just think that they could have used their money and talent for something that would be more profitable.

Combine Obsidian Entertainment's extensive knowledge of RPG design with the personal gaming tastes of South Park's Matt Stone and Trey Parker and you end up with the combat mechanics of South Park: The Game. Taking cues from the Paper Mario series, the combat is a turn-based exercise that depends largely on the player's active and precise participation. Matt MacLean is the lead designer on the game and he sat down with us to talk about the tone of the overall game, the mechanics of combat, and what the South Park RPG has learned from Final Fantasy 7. Ask any South Park fan and they'll tell you that Eric Cartman is, uh, opinionated about the Jewish people. The fifth mystery class for Obsidian's South Park: The Game has been revealed as the Jew, joining the Paladin, Wizard, Rogue, and Adventurer classes.

It's bound to upset a few people, we imagine, but that's kinda what South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone do. To expect anything less is, at this point, silly. But be warned: selecting that class is bound to elicit a few negative comments from Cartman.

In the new game, the Jew class is described as being a hybrid between Monk and Paladin. Matt Maclean, lead designer, tells Game Informer the Jew will be "high risk, high reward" and strongest when closest to death.

I read the link and I am dissapointed that we will not be able to play Cartman,Stan,Kyle or Kenny that is a complete let down this was going to be a day one buy for me now I don't know if I will buy I may not because this is bullshit

if you read the article in game informer . .matt and trey say why you don't control one of the main characters and it actually makes perfect sense .... id rather not be one of the characters as it would limit the game in a sense that it would have to follow what people know about the character from the show... I'm kinda saddened that it will be a side view turn based combat system .. i was hoping for something more along the lines of a FFVII battle system ...

I have not been able to read the article in game informer cause I can't find it at stores around me
