Default Samsung ht speaker help

My friend has bought a Samsung HT Blu-ray player that comes with 5.1 surround speakers. Ran into a bit of a problem. The speaker wires are too short, so we got her new ones but didn't check the back of the receiver, which uses some kind of plastic plugs... Anyone know if they sell these plus or longer cables that have them already installed?

This is what the unit looks like --

I've never seen that type of plug before. Can you just add the new wire you bought to the end of the samsung wire? (just twist the corresponding exposed copper wires together and cover with electrical tape or go fancy and soldier them together and use shrink tube to cover the wire)

I have one of these in DVD form since it was cheaper and I have a PS3 for blu ray. What kind of length is she looking for? I ask because my rear speakers came with a pretty long length (admittedly though my bedroom is TINY at school where I'm using this, so I could be skewed). I know Samsung sells a wireless kit for rears, though I don't know the price or if this model is compatible. I'm sure it is. Otherwise, I think DAK4's suggestion is the only other option, and sound quality could be negatively affected if done poorly.
