Now that Sidney has passed on...I am wanting to watch this movie again...and would rather not spend the $15 on a DVD. ANy chance of a blu-ray release soon?

If Sony wastes this and ships it to Twilight Time (at least ship it to Mill Creek if you're going to cheapen it out and give it to someone who never puts special features on Blu), I'll never purchase a Blu-Ray from them again. I want a 30th anniversary release.

Considering they released the 25th Anniversary edition 26 years after its release, maybe the 30th Anniversary Edition comes out next year?

could make sense. I think since Tootsie came out at the very end of 1982 and made most of its box office in 1983 (kinda like when Fox put out the 25th anniversary DVD of 9 To 5 in 2006 despite having a 1980 release, it made most of its box office in 1981), maybe Sony considers it more of a 1983 title considering there's already so many 1982 movies celebrating anniversaries to not get lost in the shuffle.

I don't think this would go to Twilight Time. At least I hope and pray not.

After Steel Magnolias, one of the most popular "chick flicks" of all time and the movie that made Julia Roberts a star, I won't put anything past Sony now with TT

NO WAY. Steel Magnolias is getting a Twilight Time release?! Not a fan of that movie, but that really is insane and heart destroying. Yes, I can imagine they'd throw out just about anything really good to Twilight Time.

yep, a Sept/Oct release I believe. After seeing that and As Good As It Gets, I am really turned off to Sony. I understand small niche titles, but box office hits are something else. I hope that Sony sees Tootsie fit to get a decent release and not some overpriced limited bare bones issue with Twilight Time.

looks like Sony is dipping its toes back into distributing catalog titles themselves, with a 30th anniversary of Annie and a 20th anniversary of A League Of Their Own due this fall. Hopefully this means we'll get a 30th anniversary edition of Tootsie announced in the next six months (as Tootsie was released at the end of 1982 and saw most of its box office in 1983 and Sony released a 25th anniversary DVD in 2008, I can see 2013) as well.

The only reason we're getting Annie is because of the Broadway show. Not entirely sure about ALOTO. I'll believe it when I see it. They really don't give a shit.

Well Fright Night had a remake and Sony still shipped that to freaking TT instead of releasing it themselves last year.

I'm hoping with some box office success with 21 Jump Street and Amazing Spider-Man that Sony is finally in the black enough to start putting more emphasis on their catalog titles. If anything, they can try to capitalize on the popularity of Jessica Lange on American Horror Story as an excuse to put Tootsie out, along with the fact that it was at one point their highest grossing movie.

Don't get me wrong: I very much hope you're right. Sony has a ton of titles that I'm interested in.

It just really frustrates me that the company that started this format has pretty much abandoned it.

This would be the year to do it, being the 30th anniversary (like Annie). I wouldn't be surprised if it's announced for a Nov/Dec release. The question is, will it be Sony or Twilight Time that delivers it?
