Created and written by Condal, Conan retells the classic character’s story via a return to his literary origins. Driven out of his tribal homelands, Conan wanders the mysterious and treacherous world of civilization where he searches for purpose in a place that rejects him as a mindless savage.

To me, Basil Poledouris is as synonymous with Conan as John Williams is with Superman, and I’m sure there’s no way that theme makes it into this show.

I’d even find a way to include a John Milius cameo if it were me.

Still, I’ll check this out when and if it shows up. You never know.

As much as I love the Arnold version, I've been waiting for someone to do something more faithful to REH's stories. I've always thought that Guillermo del Toro would be fantastic. In any case, I'm cautiously excited about this, while still hoping we get a cinematic King Conan.

I've been really into Howards work for a long time now, always wanted to see it get a proper faithful adaptation. Something on a Game of Thrones level. Hopefully this is it.

I'm a big REH fan, have almost all his writings that have made print. Yes this definitely needs to go back to the REH version of Conan.

I love the Arnie movie and even enjoyed the Momoa film, but they are so far removed from the character.

Reading the description of what they are trying to achieve I don't hold much hope. A season of him thieving temples and then a season as a pirate etc through his life until he becomes King of Aquilonia would be great.

I don't see how they can get around Howard's obvert cultural problems and remain faithful at the same time. And Malmberg is still involved.

Already seeing articles like this...https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-r...tv-show-amazon

"Howard created the character more than 80 years ago, and in recent years there has been a debate as to whether his wanton sexism and racism is compatible with contemporary culture. Writing about the books in 2010, the Guardian’s Allison Flood said: “Villains are usually dark-skinned … the darker the eviller. The more lily-white a woman’s skin, the more prized she is.”

She added: “Howard might be a product of his time, but so am I, and it’s impossible to read sentences such as ‘in this accursed city … where white, brown, and black folk mingle together to produce hybrids of all unholy hues and breeds – who can tell who is a man, and who is a demon in disguise?’ without cringing.”

Eh, I think it’d be pretty easy to ignore or alter stuff like that while staying true to the characters and stories. After all, there’s been plenty of faithful Superman stories that don’t have anything to do with elements like this.

Also, Kurt Busiek’s run on the Dark Horse comics series provides a pretty good blueprint.

Great article here that looks prospectively at what they are looking to do with the series and it's source to the Howard canon...

https://tinyurl.com/ybkujrzq

The third paragraph really nails it for me, in particular this;

"Character? What character?

Okay, I hear you. Conan SMASH. No, but really, the Conan of the movies is nothing at all like Howard’s Conan. The original Conan isn’t a loin-cloth wearing lunkhead. He’s resourceful, intelligent, and very practical warrior. Conan isn’t anyone’s dummy, and over the course of a long career, he goes from wily thief and pirate to the king of the greatest nation of the Hyborean Age. Hopefully, we’ll get to see this Conan on the small screen, because we’ve never really seen him on the big one."

Staying true to the original source material, or branching out and adapting some of the comics... either way, we should be in for a treat if the people making it actually care about the product!

The reason that Conan 2011 was such a mixed bag disaster was constant interference from Lionsgate Exec's who wanted to effectively remake the Arnold film. CEO of Cabinet Entertainment CEO Frederik Malmberg was Producer on Conan 2011 and found the making of the film to be 'Relentlessly frustrating on a daily basis to try and realise Howard's vision on film' due to constant struggles with Lionsgate. The new series should have no such troubles.

Anyone want to start the ball rolling on who should play Conan? Obviously Momoa isn't returning, but someone who can play mid to late 20's would be ideal...
