Best Buy is running a promotion to get rid of their Pioneer Pro-101's. It's only $1999.99 with the stand until Memorial Day. I would have bought one, but I already have the Pro-111. If you can get you hands on one, get it while it is hot!

Considering I picked one up roughly a month ago for around 3, this is...slightly infuriating

Wow. Smokin' deal on the best TV you can buy. These shouldn't last long at this price.

The units are very similar, with the same A/V quality, and essentially the 101FD has more custom controls for calibration because it's a monitor designed for custom installation as opposed to a television (although at this point, there is little difference). One thing to bear in mind is that the 101FD can display PAL (and French SECAM broadcast) signals, including 50Hz material. I have never been able to conform if this is a hidden function of the 111FD TV or not, but depending on how much European material you import, it might not matter. One strike against the 101FD for the average consumer is that it comes without speakers, while the 111FD has them built-in. Again, being a monitor, it is expected that purchasers of the 101FD will have their own speakers/home theater system to hook the monitor up to. I'm just upset this is still around and now $1999, as my dealer charged me $3299 for mine in March 2009. ![]() It was worth it, though. Last edited by McCrutchy; 05-29-2010 at 12:08 AM. |

Actually the 101FD is the superior set because it like the KRP-500M has the unreleased 10th Gen Kuro tech giving these sets the blackest blacks ever produced on any TV. The 111FD is still a great buy as is the case with any 9th Gen Kuro, but do know that the 101FD is the cream of the crop and it will produce deeper blacks than the 111FD. You will however not be disappointed a bit in the 111FD should you get that instead. It is still better than any non-Kuro.

In addition to a newer version of the glass panel, the 101FD and 500M also have slightly redesigned driver modules and different (most likely newer) power supplies not found in any other 50" or 60" Kuro. If you want Pioneer's latest tech, these two are the models to seek out.
