Default OOP blu-rays

I noticed some blu-rays from just 5 or so years ago are now OOP. They end up being expensive or hard to find. Was this common with DVDs or is it new to Blu-rays?

Yes. Happens with games, DVD's, and blu-rays all the same. Although with the case of movies I think if a superior upgrade comes about, that pretty much eliminates the interest in that so-called rare/OOP version. It's not the same thing as 1st edition books where it will ALWAYS be valuable. Nobody should look at any of these as rare collectors items, thus paying extraordinary prices is highly dubious unless there is very low likelihood of a reprinting (i.e. Criterion Third Man or something like that).

I generally stay away from paying up for any OOP items. Sometimes I will see an item is going OOP and maybe make sure I get it before it sells out (instead of waiting for a sale), but if I miss it I miss it.
