Default Adult\Modern\Dark Fairy Tale Films

Ok, I am looking for examples of films made in say, the last 40 or 50 years that could be described as adult, modern and\or dark films. Many of these films could be surreal though they still follow a traditional narrative at the same time. Also they should have supernatural or mysterious characteristics as well. Lastly, they are not PG films and are more adult orientated.

Some great examples that I can think of are:

The Tin Drum
Perfume
The Double Life of Veronique

And some others that are borderline and arguable:

Run Lola Run
The Princess and the Warrior
Blue Velvet
Carnivale (TV Series)

Does anyone have any suggestions that may mirror what I am looking for?

I've never seen Big Fish but it seems like it'd fit.

I guess Batman Returns fits the bill. It's probably the darkest and most surreal superhero film I've seen and there are suggestions of the supernatural. There's also much in the way of violence and innuendo, so it's not traditionally kid-friendly (it's rated 15 over here in its uncut version).

Yup forgot that one as well and I agree. I also really liked this flick though I remember it not getting a whole lot of love.

The Company Of Wolves is basically Little Red Riding Hood with sexual overtones, extremely creepy imagery and graphic gore. I guess that counts?

First thing I thought of was "Delicatessen", as it's dark and surreal, but I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for exactly. Amelie (from the same director) also has a sort of fantasy/surreal characteristic about it, though more lighthearted.

Mama and Precious reminded me of a lot of the works of The Brothers Grimm.

On the lighter side, Penelope was a rather likeable modern-day fantasy story.
