Default Question About Samsung LNA650 Picture Modes

Question about the picture modes: Can “Movie” and “Standard” be calibrated to look completely identical? Or is there something inherently different about the modes themselves that makes it impossible for them to ever look the same?

the movie mode on samsungs uses lower backlight setting (obviously) but the biggest difference is that it sets the color temp. to Warm2. I don't think the "standard" mode allows you to go any warmer than "normal" for the color temp. so you have to use "custom" and tweak it from there. I personally use movie mode but I use warm 1 because warm 2 is way too warm to me and it creates a weird yellow tint on almost everything.

And for adjusting your white balance try this: under detailed settings go to "white balance" and lower your "B-Gain" to about-16-17. I also have my G-Gain at 19 and R-Gain at 22. TVs push blue always so this helps (snow will look more white and not blue for example and people's white shirts and shoes won't look like they are wearing them for the first time-it'll look more natural)

Yes, you could, I suppose, in theory... Standard doesn't have warm 1 or warm 2, which are far more accurate than normal or cool 1 or 2. So in Movie mode you'd have to set it to normal, which would mean you'd be sacrificing accurate color. Maybe if you changed the color space and gray scale (white balance) you could make standard more accurate, but by how much, and with how much hassle, I don't know.

I would say just use movie mode, use warm 1 or warm 2, and calibrate it. Some lnxxa650 owners say warm 2 works better for them, other say warm 1. Warm 2 for me is too warm, and warm 1 is good. For others warm 1 is too cool and warm 2 is good. Depends on your set, test them out, see which is best.

Can I ask why you want to know? And why would you have a need to do this, or want to do this?
