i don't understand the nature of your question. the receiver has an input that says "BD/DVD" connect your player to it via HDMI, you will get both your audio & video from that cable into your receiver. your receiver has an output, connect your HDTV to it via HDMI, your done. of course, other than this what are you not understanding or what are you trying to ask or what am i missing?

The OP's link isnt working, so i posted the new one here...

http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-HT-S5300-7-1-Channel-Theater-Receiver/dp/B003BEDQRG

can you confirm the question if you please, you need instructions to help out in connecting your
Receiver to the
-TV
- Blu-ray player

Correct?

If so, id suggest connecting them via an HDMI cable
Blu-ray player->Receiver->TV

The receiver in this 'bundle' is the Onkyo TX-SR508 model.

I owned a Onkyo HTS 5200

I don't know for the 5300 but the HDMI is only for the picture. For the sound, you will need a coaxial or optical connexion.

I don't understand you question because behind the receiver, it's very easy and the handbook is very simple.

Not with the 5300. It uses audio and video over HDMI.

Well I see that this thread hasn't received any action in months! Hope my query doesn't fall on def ears, so here it goes anyway:

A buddy of mine just received his HTiB system: Onkyo HTS5300. He's a newb and doesn't really know about lossless audio or any of that. First of all, I cannot describe how much I thoroughly despise these HTiB systems with their color coated hanger wires and no pre-outs and such, but I digress.

He has a Sony BDP5570 player connected via HDMI into the HDMI 1 port. For some reason, I don't know if it's because it's an Onkyo and I'm unfamiliar with Onkyos or what, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to get it to decode the lossless formats.

I've set the Sony BD player to Audio > HDMI > Auto thinking that it will automatically bitstream the necessary codecs to the Onkyo, but the Onkyo does not display DTS-HD MA on the HUD. Instead it displays the PCM light in the top left corner with "Multi Ch" across the HUD.

Then I thought, "Hmm...maybe this player is incapable of bitstream and I need to set it to PCM?" Well...no. It does the same exact thing. In the system set-up menu on the Sony there is no option to set the audio to "bitstream". The only options are "PCM" or "Auto", that's it.

Is there something on the Onkyo, a setting maybe, that I'm overlooking? I've tried a million things and I cannot get the "DTS-HD MA" nor the "Dolby True HD" lights on the HUD to display (which BTW there are in fact those lights on the HUD).

One final note: When you press "Display" on the Sony remote the Sony says that it's playing DTS-HD MA, but it's carrying over to the Onkyo as "PCM", which leads me to believe that the Sony BDPS570 simply does not have bitstream capabilities. Now, I know what "PCM" and "Bitstream" are and I know the differences. Audibly there may be no difference, but it's still nice to have the codecs displayed on the HUD instead of "PCM > Multi Ch", am I right?

from: the BDP-S570 manual, page 29( troubleshooting section )

The HD Audio (Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby
TrueHD, DTS-HD High Resolution Audio,
and DTS-HD Master Audio) is not output
by bitstream.
Set “BD Audio MIX Setting” to “Off” in
the “Audio Settings” setup (page23).
