No, I do not think it will be a viable choice considering the additional expenses (IE: 3D Player, 3D TV, glasses, etc). I think it will be a novelty then die out faster than Laser Disc. JMO

All this recent talk of 3D seems kinda crazy to me. I liked Avatar as much as anyone, but I don't think 2D is going to go away for a long time.
![]() BTW I don't intend that comment as a dig at the OP - everyone is talking 3D, he or she is just responding to that... ![]() |

The thing is that it's being coming and going for more then 50 years and everytime we hear "it's here to stay" only it does not. I know that once again everyone is saying, it's different now but it's hard to think it won't just go away again after failling to gain ground.

Not for me! Every time I see a 3D movie it is great for the first 3 - 5 min then I start getting a headache and start noticing how blurry the picture is. I will wait until 3D BD is mainstream, and I mean much more mainstream than BD is by itself right now before I check it out. I just do not see it getting much better anytime soon. Also if I have to wear the glasses then no sale no matter how good it gets.

No glasses is a step in the right direction at least, but I will still need to see the results.

The guy who reported on it (was here in Montreal TV show) saw it live at the Expo. He admit not being a huge fan of 3D but he was impress it seem by the TV, He's a big gamer and he could probably see lots of ways to use it for games if there is no need for glasses. Like you and many people he just cannot wear those glasses all the time

To have 3D capabilities, you will need 1.4 HDMI, 3D LCD, 3D player and movie that is in 3D. The most expensive being the LCD upgrade. However if some companies are willing to let us trade in our 2D set to upgrade to 3D and pay the difference then I might think about it. Until then I am perfectly satisfied with my 2D. |

I think we all know a few people who haven't even made the jump to blu ray yet... why would companies come out with yet another format so quickly? I know I'm not making the jump unless my TV craps the bed and I get a sweet deal on a 3D one. Im also not a fan of having to wear glasses over my glasses.

Despite all the hoopla over box office numbers, people are staying home in droves - theater business isn't what it used to be. So the triple whammy is in with 3-D: - Get them in the theaters with a 3-D spectacular - Motivate them to reboot their televisions and players, even if they're less than a year old (over 4.5 million Blu players were sold within the last five months) - Get people to buy 3-D movies, creating more "first day buy for me" and "can't wait" chants, and more traffic for the expensive 3-D productions Production of 3-D films is very expensive, according to just about everyone in the industry. We'll see how long it can be sustained, with theaters having to rebuild their projection and screen systems, and users have to buy all new televisions, goggles, and players. |

So it's not just a simple firmware upgrade? I was at the Panasonic Pavilion in Vancouver that is set up for the Olympics and they were demoing 3D there.
It sounds like HD-DVD/Blu-Ray all over again where everyone rushes to get their product out the door before a standard is established only to have everyone who jumped on board realize they're on a sinking ship. |
