Default is it worth it

I have klipsch reference speakers in my ht,and i was thinking of buying a amp for my center and fronts. Ive read that these speakers need very little power to perform and that using a amp wil have little or no difference in sound. Im currently running them with a yamaha 663. Just want to here some opinions from people with these speakers with a amp, preferably an emotiva amp since thats the one i was thinking about getting. Any suggestions would be great.

I say go for it, an amp will make the speakers gain a stronger prescence and they won't distort or clip at higher volumes. You might not notice a big difference, but it's a step in the right direction I assure you. Talk to some of the guys on the Emotiva thread, there's a good bunch of fellas over there.

You should read this before your final decision.

To Separate or Not to Separate?

The RF-5/7's are super efficient, but they really scream when you put some real power into them. It made the highs clearer and not so bright, and the bass response is much tighter and very clean. Like BD said, don't expect miracles, but it will add a presence to your speakers that more than likely is lacking without an external amp. I can't give you any feedback on Emotiva, but I can give you some on several other companies.

You have touched on something very important here. It seems that much of the discussion here is about what an amp will do for volume of the speakers. What needs to be considered is that an amp will be able to better drive and control the drivers which will result in a much cleaner and accurate sound.

You are correct that Klipsch speakers are very efficient and need only a little power. If you decide to buy an amplifier, it will definitely make you feel better and perhaps may make your speakers sound better, but don't expect miracles.

I have Klipsch Reference series speakers and I'm running an Emotiva XPA-5 and an XPA-2. I'm very happy with the switch from using my AVR's power to using separates. I like the fact that I have plenty of headroom if I need it

One thing that may help with an external amp is with the clarity at lower volumes. I sensed this right away when I added an amp. The dialog was simply better pronounced and yet remained seemless with the fronts.

I wish I knew about that before I ordered the UPA-7 and I was only using the Klipsch Synergy line at the time and I was not happy with the amp.

I have switched from Klipsch to Monitor Audio since and still using the same Onkyo 805. When I had the Klipsch, I could never get my volume to go less then around -20, or something like that, I can't really remember, but with the same AVR and different speakers, I have to turn the volume higher to sometimes around -10 or 9.5 and that's a big difference.

I now wonder the samething as you do, but with my new speakers I have.
