Robert Downey Jr. Looks to Yucatan

Anthony Peckham, the screenwriter behind Sherlock Holmes has signed on to write Yucatan for Warner Bros, with Robert Downey Jr. attached to star, says a report at Deadline.

Yucatan, based on a story by the late actor Steve McQueen, who had intended starring in a film version himself. The story would feature Downey as deep sea diver for-hire who is hired to uncover lost Mayan treasure.

This looks very promising as a Story in and of itself. Downey Jr. in a role that the late Great Steve McQueen was going to do, based on his Own story? Sounds good to me!

I'm a HUGE Steve McQueen fan & this story seems pretty cool. I'm sure RDJ will do it justice.

Some screenplays/ideas bounce around Hollywood for YEARS in "development Hell". This could have been one of those, or maybe people were waiting for Technology to catch up to the Idea at hand (?).

Yeah! That might be it. I just was rather puzzled by it. I mean the story seem rather interesting so you would think they would have made this a lot earlier, even more so in the 80's when this type of adventure movies were big.
