I'm on my 4th week of P90X and it's a great way to get in shape and lose some weight, especially if you follow the diet plan.

Insanity is CRAZY. I've tried P90X and Insanity.

Insanity kicked my butt and I didn't feel like I was getting anywhere.

If you do decide to try it, PLEASE BUY A HEART MONITOR.

It depends what your goal is, really.

And I wouldn't necessarily limit your options to P90x or Insanity. Anyone with an internet connection and some sort of commitment to exercise can go out and achieve their fitness goal.

Both of these programs sell themselves to people who want to get in great shape really fast. It's possible, sure, but it's generally the exception.

Someone who doesn't have a history of working out regularly can't expect to suddenly throw in the Insanity DVDs and get in amazing shape in 2 months (or whatever the amount of time is that they talk about on TV).

That being said, neither one is exactly bad either. Insanity is more about cardio, so if you are looking to lose some fat, and tone up whatever muscle you might already have it's fine. But if you want to build bigger "glamour" muscles (arms, chest, shoulders), avoid it.

For building muscle, P90x would be better than Insanity (because it actually incorporates free weights, pull-ups, etc), but a regular gym routine would still be best.

I guarantee you that P90X works IF you follow their strict diet and follow the workout plans correctly.

True, but you can say that about any sort of exercise routine.

Most of the workouts on TV are for people to lose weight.

If your goal is to actually build bigger muscles, there's no way to do that without lifting really heavy weights, which none of these programs show.

Look at all the results photos they show on TV or that are posted on the internet. Nobody builds up their pecs by doing P90x. All they do is tone up whatever they had there to begin with.

That's the only reason I brought it up, because if the goal is to build muscle, there are better options. If the goal is to just get back in better shape, either one will work (though Insanity is probably better for just getting into shape, if the person can handle it).

In any case, you hit on an important point, because eating the proper diet is just as important as the time put in exercising.

Part of the P90X system has tracking sheets where you monitor the number of reps you did with each weight and there are different workouts for if you will be building or toning.

Like for Chest and Biceps you do 12-15 reps per exercise for toning vs 8-10 reps with a heavier weight to build. Then you up when it gets too easy.

P90X is a great program and I would recommend it in a heartbeat.

I had this experience with Insanity too. It must have been what I was eating. That had to be it. I'm going to start an Insanity/P90X hybrid this week, and I'm going to stick with it until 2011, when P90X MC2 comes out.

I would say p90X would be better for muscle and cardio, and Insanity for straight up fat burning cardio.

You know you're in for some pain when the warm up kicks your ass. (with regards to Insanity)

I have not worked out in ten years. I decided it was time and I got Insanity. I am on day 32 of 60 and the difference in my body is noticeable! I have not lost much weight, maybe 6 pounds, but overall I have toned up and lost over an inch in my waist and over an inch in my hips. I was not a big guy to begin with ... weight at 190 when I started. I am happy with the results, but it will kick your butt! However, I do feel good after each workout.

diet > exercise

Day 15 of P90 today, my body has been torn apart, one more week of the first round then the stretchy, yoga week, then into another gear entirely. The diet used to be the hardest part for me but this time the discipline is really there. Results will hopefully speak for themselves.

P90x - I hate it, but I love it.

Long way to go yet, but feeling good everyday even through the soreness.

You don't really need a heart monitor. Just make sure you pay attention to your body. If you're gasping for breath and can barely do another exercise, stop and rest. Don't push yourself. I've enjoyed my 6 weeks of Insanity so far. I went from 155 lbs to about 139 now. By no means was I fat (5'8" and a male), but my cousin wanted to start a new workout to help her lose weight and I decided to do it with her to push her and motivate her. I'm in love with my results though .

Do you take an supplements? I was planning on doing P90X right after I finish my insanity workout. Just 3'ish more weeks.
