Default Blank R2R 7" Tape!

Does anyone know if these are still being manufactured? I know I can get used, but I'd love to get virgin tape!

The last of the NOS that I know of is here: http://www.quantegy-online.com/closeout-specials.html

I bought several 7" 1800' new stock tapes from Quantegy last year. Still have a few that I have not opened. The dynamic quality of these are not as good as the polyester based Maxell UD's or TDK's from the late 70's and 80's. (these two are the brands you want), and they are readily available on ebay. What you must get, however, is a bulk eraser. That gadget should be used on any tape, new or used before you record to it. Blackens the background and greatly reduces hissing.

I will tell you to avoid any old stocks of Scotch, BASF, Ampex, as these tapes have a nasty habit of shedding, and shedding badly.

PM me if you need anything more.

Thanks Fred!

I'll PM you once I get the Pioneer installed. I'm sure I'll have lots of questions as I haven't played with tape in decades.

I'm there for you buddy!

Check out my newest toy: Teac X1000R

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MoF6...eature=related

part 2

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_dhM...eature=related

The unit shown in the video is NOT the unit that I just purchased.

The X1000R that I bought is in virtually new condition. I also scored a lot of 3 TDK Audua L3600 tapes that are in exceptionally good condition.

I'm totally juiced!!! Cannot wait for it to arrive!

And the best part: It came with wife approval in advance! No belly crawling after the fact.

How freagin' sweet is that, eh! Nice going buddy! I'm seeing a lot of 10'ers coming up on CAM these last few months...damn, if only I had the money!

You should post a vid in Chris' thread of you demonstrating some tape.

Forgot to mention John, you're going to love the RT-707. It's and excellent deck that is a perfect match for your Pioneer IA. Getting back into taping is a lot of fun.

I can't stress enough, though about the bulk eraser. You should be able to get one on CAM or Ebay for $15 or so.
