Russia Viy 3: Journey to India (2022) 3D

Russian Film Group have begun filming the third entry in the series, going back to its horror roots with a zombie theme. It’s scheduled for theatrical release in 2022.

The art direction once again looks first rate and ‘3d’ features prominently in early publicity.

Quote:
Jonathan Green with his beloved Miss Dudley, accompanied by Russian sailors, arrives to the shores of India. They expect to board an English ship bound for London. But in India, Green receives a mysterious invitation from the mysterious and very wealthy Indian Vaibhava Singh, a meeting with whom will turn for Jonathan into new trials, adventures and confrontation with zombie army. To unravel the ancient legend, the famous traveler, cartographer and inventor Jonathan Green will have to overcome many obstacles, save his beloved from the darkness of ancient India's dungeons, face the wild fauna and fight the mystical forces of an insidious monster. And all this takes place against the backdrop of magical landscapes and colorful architecture of a mysterious country.

Interesting story. Not a lot of people from India actually know about the Viy series, so if the makers really make an authentic film, this will be a great introduction to those who don't know about the Viy films. This really sounds promising.

And on top of the 3D release, it would be great if we get this on Blu-ray 3D.

Glad to know. 3D is still alive!

Bollywood is shouldering part of the production cost so many scenes will be filmed locally. Photography will be location-based around key Indian landmarks and landscapes so hopefully it won't just be another green screen extravaganza.

Sharukh Khan will play the role of Vaibhava Singh and serve as a producer.

The budget is a bit lower ($40m versus $50m) but if they can focus on telling a coherent story it should be excellent and a 2023 3d blu from Koch is closer to a safe bet than any other film on the format.

It'll be the last of the trilogy.

Honestly I don't think Shahrukh Khan will be there in this film, because there's no confirmation about this yet. It's been more than 4 years since this news came out, and there's no update regarding the casting of Shahrukh Khan and Ranbir Kapoor, another Bollywood actor.

I don't know, I could be wrong, and they might have a cameo appearance after all. But I'm not getting my hopes high for now.

From what I've seen in the teaser trailer, this looks phenomenal. As an Indian myself, I can say it's pretty authentic for a fantasy feature film.

Again, this film looks like it's made for 3D. So, like you said, a Blu-ray 3D release from Koch Media in 2023 would be amazing, but I'm really hoping that the 3D Blu-ray reaches a wider audience in India, US, UK and all the important countries as well. It would be a missed opportunity if it doesn't happen.

No problem. It's basically the same budget once you subtract Jackie Chan and Arnie!

Watching the trailer again for the first film, the story seems hard to follow other than to guess the guy with the long wig investigates people turning into monsters and tries to stop them somehow. He shows no skills in how to do that though from the trailer anyway. Reminds me of Sleepy Hollow with John Depp. The era of these long goofy looking wigs I'm glad passed a long time ago. The monster theme seems interesting.

That aside, the movie looks like it has potential if they delivered strong 3D layering.

How was the 3D in Viy? I'll guess mostly mild 3D?

A zombie theme in the 3rd one sounds interesting.

I haven't seen these films, but heard Jackie Chan plays a role. I'm guessing it's a small part or cameo role?

Yeah, I thought the 3D was quite great and certainly worth seeking out. I also didn't find the plot all that bad to follow even though others seem to complain about it.

Glad the 2nd one is finally getting a 3D release and appears to be English friendly (which, should be obvious since the majority of the cast is English speaking but stranger things have happened). I was certainly worried that we wouldn't get Viy 2 (aka Iron Man aka whatever else) in 3D at all anywhere. Keep up the good work Germany!

Instead of finding it interesting, Indians in general are more likely to get offended by religious imagery

As an Indian myself, I have absolutely no problem with any religious imagery, because this film looks amazing and I wanna see it, and the makers have no intention to offend anyone, but I will say the Indian audience is heavily divided by religion, caste, creed and all that garbage; and it's not cool. There are some people who don't care about all that and they just wanna be entertained.

The government and political parties in India who hold a lot of power get offended by anything that is wrong or incorrect or misrepresented according to their beliefs, be it films or even TV shows and web series, use that power to change what they think is wrong, or even ban the film and prevent exhibition in India.

If you ask my opinion, Indian politic$ is a joke and is heavily affecting the beauty of different kinds of art we admire everyday, and many other things that are essential to many people's lives, for example: education.

Also, I'm very sorry if politics shouldn't be discussed in these forums, but I think they should be addressed to know what's happening behind the curtains, especially to all those who wanna watch good films and admire different kinds of art.

Here's hoping for a smooth release in India, and most importantly, a Blu-ray 3D release, because we want it.

That trailer is from October 2020. Part of this movie was shot in Russia, but production was frozen due to Covid and lawsuits against the filmmakers over Iron Mask not releasing on time, according to its contract. The producers tried to get their money back. Then the Ukranian-Russian War happened and everyone started severing international ties with Russian companies. Has this actually resumed production? My feeling is that this project is dead.

I have been searching everywhere to watch or purchase viy 3 journey to india for over 2 years and no one at all can tell me what has become of this. I note that it is stated the film has been completed and released but it all seems vague and a bit surreal as I can find no evidence of it. I am a big fan of this series, can anyone help me find a copy?

See my post directly above yours. Production was never completed. The filmmakers were sued by their investors. Then the war happened.

If they couldn’t be bothered to read your previous post above, low chance they would read this one!
